If I lived near you I would come along and deal with the parents!

AlbusPercival · 09/05/2016 13:28

Haha thanks Groovee, told my other leaders I am PG last meeting, so hopefully they will step up tonight :)

00100001 · 09/05/2016 13:47

One of our parents threatened to pull her daughter out because we weren't offering enough outside of the unit Confused We sent a long email home explaining what had been offer just that term! :)

I think in one term we had three evening and five weekend events as well as the weekly meetings!

AlbusPercival · 09/05/2016 14:05

That is crazy 001, I mean do parents not realise we have our own lives and families that occupy weekends?

I do one weekend per term, camp or day trip, and I really think that is enough.

I would welcome any parent who wanted to do their ALQ and organise more Hmm

00100001 · 09/05/2016 14:19

I don't think that the parent realised how much was going on, because her daughter didn't choose to take part iyswim?

00100001 · 09/05/2016 14:20

And we're sitting here going "oh no, you're going to pull your daughter out?? Yikes, we only have a waiting list of about 23 girls!" Hmm Grin

RueDeWakening · 09/05/2016 14:31

Blimey 001, that's loads! My DD's Brownies typically offer 1 holiday (weekend) a year, plus one event like Revels or a county event, and Thinking Day. She's 9, and has had 2 meetings outside of the usual hall I think she goes to loads of stuff with my Rainbows mind.

Groovee · 09/05/2016 15:06

Maybe the parents have skills they could share with your unit Wink

OP posts:
lucysmam · 09/05/2016 16:56

Crikey I'm glad ours don't really have many units here to compare with. We've done more since I took over planning (as far as I can see) than previous LiC ever did with the Rainbows!

I'm now waiting on a call back from our Tesco community champion about F2F as she wasn't available earlier on to have a chat and organise anything. I'll try again on Weds if she doesn't call back.

Subs are now in the bank ! Have kept hold of a bit of change for over the next few weeks but don't actually need anything until next half term - could make use of some coloured cellophane though if anyone knows where's likely to be cheap as chips for it?

Going to sort my box of freebies for the girls later on (road safety) & finish off our card for the leader I've taken over from so I can give it to her at the AGM on Weds. Have also made a thank you card for the lovely Build A Bear lady who ran our party last weekend.

WreckingBallsInsideMyHead · 09/05/2016 19:36

Lucysmam my brownies did ftf at tesco and loved it, hope you get some joy soon

AlbusPercival · 09/05/2016 19:37

We went on our scavenger hunt. It absolutely poured with rain.

Brownies soaked and I will miss WI as I need a shower too much!

Groovee · 09/05/2016 19:55

Oh Albus what a mare!

Lucy you sound very organised.

OP posts:
lucysmam · 09/05/2016 20:24

Oh dear Albus, that's no good!

Being disorganised drives me nuts Groovee! I'm off out tomorrow so want to make sure everything's sorted so I'm not farting about 20 mins before we need to leave.

InFlagranteDelicto · 09/05/2016 21:28

Oh no Albus! We're on a picture trail tomorrow night, I'm crossing my fingers that if it must rain, that it isn't too heavy.

Can't believe some of those parents! Ye Gods! Think they need to come and do their ALQ 😉

lucysmam · 10/05/2016 22:09

Hmmmmm, rowdy Rainbows tonight Wine

I'm trying to get my head around next week...one moving up to Brownies which we usually do just after LLLL song...4 to make their promise - I've invited their parents as I'd like to make more of it for the girls but they want to stay rather than come back early. Which is fine but means they either wait outside or hover while our oldest Rainbow makes the move to Brownies. Or we see if Brown Owl will hang on for ten mins (hopefully not interrupting her plans) & start bang on 6:15 which means any latecomers 'gatecrashing' the ones making their promise.

Inviting parents may be a one off.

Groovee · 10/05/2016 22:31

Could you do the promises at the start? The previous unit I was at did it then.

OP posts:
lucysmam · 10/05/2016 22:35

Before LLLL song? We could do, hadn't considered that.

Imfinehowareyou · 11/05/2016 11:38

On our Promise making nights we do the LLLL song then the promises. Then parents leave (or stay and help) and we have the party.

Wish me luck tonight re: unpaid subs Grin

lucysmam · 11/05/2016 13:48

Sad our Rainbow whose mam lost the baby isn't coming back to Rainbows for now. Sounds like she's struggling quite a bit so her mam's asked me to put her back on the waiting list for the moment & let her know when a place is available again.

Good luck Imfine, be FIRM!! but still smiley and nice. Our Brownies had a mum huffing and puffing about having to pay for missed sessions last night even after it'd been explained that we still account for activities for X number of girls even if some don't show!

I'm going to email Brown Owl shortly and see if it'll interrupt her plans for next week if we do Promises with our Rainbows before POG with her new Brownie. I think it's the parents wanting to stay rather than come back early that's thrown me. Usually POG would happen first after LLLL, then promises as we're finishing off.

Groovee · 11/05/2016 15:45

Aww your poor rainbow. Flowers

Imfine good luck.

We're finishing off badges then going to start our talent show planning!

OP posts:
lucysmam · 11/05/2016 21:20

How did you get on Imfine?

I've not long been in from our AGM, been offered a sewing machine...not quite sure what to do with it yet but I said yes. Maybe something to do with the Guides when we open rather than the Rainbows...thinking cap on.

Groovee · 11/05/2016 21:37

I have a new brownie, looking at her go record, she leaves and comes back again. Rainbow leader says she is a hit or miss! She's missed 2 sessions with badges but has always managed to come for the fun nights. That will be fun when she only gets 2 badges instead of 4! Confused

Oh I'd love a sewing machine!

How did it go imagine?

Talent show planning went fab.

OP posts:
lucysmam · 11/05/2016 21:59

Well, so long as she makes it to the fun nights...Hmm That'd drive me a bit nuts I think!

I have a machine of my own but it's very pricey machine & I love it tooooo much to let anyone else near . This one's similar to the John Lewis £50 ones so not hugely expensive or complicated if it breaks down or something goes wrong.

Talent show sounds fun! What sort of acts have you got?

Groovee · 11/05/2016 22:04

Apparently they are starting with you canny shove yer granny off a bus then a magic act, a few plays, a clarinet, and an altogether dance that Dd is choreographing for them. Will enroll the new brownies then the brownies can serve the food.

OP posts:
Imfinehowareyou · 12/05/2016 09:50

Groovee that sounds like so much fun. Brownies seem so grown up to me!

lucysmam go on Pinterest for beginner sewing ideas. I bet your Rainbows would love to just have a try at sewing a wobbly line! My DD likes to press the foot pedal for me as I sew (can be a bit scary for me though!!) I'm thinking promise bunting.

I didn't get any more subs -boo.....but I was brave, firm and smiley!! I suggested weekly subs to one who looked relieved and the other (who usually pays) promised it for next week. Watch this space....

I have pre warned the Brownie leader though as all my non payers are due to be hers in September!
