Daft question but does this normally have any correlation to ability? Would you normally give it to a child who doesn't actually make the team? Odd question I know, but I have a very confused child right now

Is this football? It will depend entirely on the team/club/manager... There can be a bit of favouritism from coaches and parents...

Yes football thx. My 5yr old is pretty good and got player of the season but a few days later got left out of the squad for a big friendly tournament. Their friend got picked even though one doesn't like football really but is told to play by his dad. Cue desperately upset child all week
