Hi,ds1 who is nearly 9 plays violin in our local, council music academy. In July we are going on Tour with them and the local youth orchestra to Lake Garda in Italy.V excited!!We are going by coach but ds really needs a sturdier case but preferably one that can hold some music. This will be his birthday present so will be prepared to spend a couple of hundred pounds.
Can anyone recommend a make or website?

Is it worth paying so much for a 3/4s case? Children often move up to full size within 12-24 months...

Thanks for replying,I honest;y have no idea how long his 3/4 violin will last!

Have a word with the teacher. DD1 had her 3/4s for just 12 months. She is older, about to turn 13, but she is quite petite.

Also, I found Thestringzone.co.uk to be pretty good.

I can't recommend a case, as I haven't had to purchase one yet. However I will shortly have to buy compact hard shell travel case for both girls for plane travel. Our teacher knows what I need, I'll try remember ask her next week and I can let you know, in case that's any good for you.

We invested in a BAM full size case and padded it with a little cushion and the 3/4 sits nicely. No space for music though, but certainly light and sturdy, and hopefully will be allowed in plane cabin for school tour. Try looking at various cases (E.g. caswells has good website) but nothing beats looking in person.

Pizzicato Do you happen to know which BAM case it was? I'm slightly put off by there being no too for music but is that better? He could have a separate music case?? Shock

Yes, DS chose a BAM hightech slim, in orange of all colours! He used to have an oblong one that was cheap, looked great but wasn't really sturdy and the metal clasps that held the straps onto the case kept snapping and needed replacement. In the end he always carried the music separately as it made the case too heavy.

Also turning up to say please don't fork out much for a 3/4 case.... um, ebay?! Surely they have travel boxes for each section (we did when we went on tour with Y.O. but that was a million years ago)

Liking the idea of a decent full size and padding it, good thinking!
