I mean it's fab because it's brilliant prize & it's great that she got it

& the teacher said that they really loved her style in the workshop

& I'm really proud of her

But there are all sorts of reasons not to go; not least because it's abroad and that adds flights & accommodation

But it is lovely & I'm boasting no stealth involved Wink

Excellent , if a shame there are unseen costs attached.

nonicknameseemsavailable · 15/02/2015 13:03

wow - she has won a dance summer school abroad? that is seriously impressive.

Is it possible do you think with flights and accommodation? any rich old relatives who could help out? sounds like an amazing opportunity for her.

Trumpton · 15/02/2015 13:05

Ah well done minikatymac !

Gileswithachainsaw · 15/02/2015 13:09

Well done your dd!!!!

Is there really no way she can go? have you looked into cheap accommodation /flights.

grand parents?

KatyMac · 15/02/2015 13:10

It is lovely & just the boost she needed before auditions

We will investigate....not sure where to start tbh (I'll work it out)

Have you considered looking to charity funding? Possibles here[[// and [[http://www.garrickclub.co.uk/charitable_trust here but I'm sure there are more if you make a point of looking.

Grandparents have just paid for her Pre-vocational course

We will have to think about it; life is busy right now so, maybe taking time too think is wise

ah that is hard if it is out of reach. Ask her dance school if they know of any bursary funds or even ask a local company to sponsor her perhaps? large companies often have funds for 'things' close to where they have main offices so perhaps you need to be cheeky and contact some (or see if the dance school will with you) and see if anyone would help.

morethanpotatoprints · 15/02/2015 19:11

well done mini mac.

Where have you been? Not seen you for ages, thought you'd gone. Grin
Sounds like its really working out for her. Thanks

HSMMaCM · 15/02/2015 19:39

Congratulations. Hope you manage to find the funds.

KatyMac · 15/02/2015 21:57

Thanks it's been a great boost to her ego; whether she goes or not

I'm always around Morethan

I think it might have to be a no

There is an audition as part of the summer school & I don't think she would be able to do the course - is a BA & she only has GCSEs, & she wouldn't be able to access funding to study abroad

So we might do it just as a nice holiday but we haven't really got the money & what spare money we have (or can get from bursaries/grants/charities) we need for funding the next year

KatyMac · 17/02/2015 22:09

it sounds a bit odd and a bit of a vanity non prize to me. Like those poem writing 'competitions'

JudgeRinderSays · 20/02/2015 01:26

I think they are just trying to flig you their ba course

madwomanbackintheattic · 20/02/2015 02:03

Well done minimac!
Two of dd1's friends attended the Alberta Ballet summer school this year - definitely worth it and not flogging anything Grin the teaching and workshops mean they have returned to the dance school much stronger dancers and have had their horizons broadened exponentially. They were thrilled to have been given the opportunity. No one from the school has been before, and two offered places in one year!
A few of our dancers get scholarships for US residencies too - a week here and there. Usually these are the girls who intend to pursue Broadway type careers, but it's very common in the US to offer this stuff. Of course, some of them do hanker after going back and doing more, but largely that's because they get so much out of it!!

KatyMac · 20/02/2015 08:16

Whether it's selling or not - it may be out of my price range Grin

We will see
