Any swimming (competitive) parents around for a chat?

I've seen threads for other activities/sports but not swimming. I'm near the beginning of what I expect will be a long journey with swimming (DD1 is almost 7 and has been with the club for a year, DD2 hasn't started yet but is quite a promising little swimmer already), and I was wondering if any more experienced parents had any tips for us, or just wanted a general chat.

Thanks squirrelled that's useful. I had hoped the sessions were like that. I'm hoping to take her to watch one or two before she starts if we can. There is only only squad per level, so swapping isn't an option I don't think.

Micah yes! I will email I think. Just clarifying my questions via MN beforehand in case there are things I'm not considering. Or considering too much.

Sorry for unnecessary !

My ipad likes to put them in of its own accord.

My DCs swim competitively and they are reasonably good (county level). I love how fit, organised and happy swimming makes them. I hate all the driving to training, galas. There are many ups and downs, they do well in one gala and badly in many more. To be honest, I wouldn't go down this route if I had the choice again. I feel I have to do it as they enjoy it so much, but on top of full time work it is a huge commitment not only for the DCs but for me too.

Thanks medtem, I am concerned about the effect on the rest of the family. We have quite easygoing family focused weekends atm, and I worry about losing that. But, she's keen and so I have to give her this opportunity I think.

As a child, my sister was very talented at a particular activity and everything we did as a family revolved around it for several years. Hopefully that makes me aware enough to keep a balance for all of us. It's early days yet anyway.
