Lightweight alto sax cases - any suggestions?

i am trying to find a lightweight alto sax case for under £150 for my DS as he has to do a fair bit of walking with his instrument. The choice seems to be between Hiscox cases or Jakob Winter Greenline cases. I can't find any reviews for the Jakob Winter cases, has anyone any experience of these cases. They are so much lighter than others, but would they offer enough protection? Thanks

Hi. My Ds had similar issues and in the end I bought this bag and they shipped it from Germany. It is a soft case though but was suitable for what we wanted as Ds could leave it in a secure place at school.
Now he has a better quality sax and it came with its own rectangular soft case with straps, but the rectangular shape gives better protection to the bell.

Also some ratings of the Jacob Winter case here but it seems that only the star ratings are visible, not the actual words.

Thanks for the link, that site has a really good range of cases, will get DS to have a good browse later. I think he's set his heart on a case that has the saxophone shape, which is ok, but which is also as light as a feather !

We recently bought two backpack style soft cases for different instruments from www.fusion-bags.com. The instrument slips into a foam sleeve and then into the padded bag. They seem to be very well made, nice padded straps, lots of dense foam padding for the instrument and reflective patches (at least on the bags we have).

We've found Tom and Will really good for dd's heavy instrument.

only they only seem to have the pink in stock til the end of the month. Does your ds like pink?

Thanks everyone, I will point DS towards these websites when he gets home - he will love browsing these. He has been saving up for this for several months now so if he does like the Tom and Will bag a little bit more of a wait won't hurt. At the moment he has a rectangular case that came with the Buffet sax and its really heavy and a lot bigger than the instrument - I have this vision of him falling over backwards and not being able to get up again like some poor beetle with waving legs!

Also I can now point out to DS the usefulness of Mumsnet as he has a habit of sighing heavily when he sees I'm reading it and rolling his eyes as if in despair of his mother.

I second Fusion bags. We've got the cornet & trombone ones and they're great. They're lightweight & protect the instruments well. I try to encourage my kids to put their instruments back into their hard cases when at home but they don't listen. Both instruments have been perfectly safe in their Fusion bags full time though. Dd2 no longer complains about carrying her cornet to school & to her bands. We don't even have the top or 2nd to top level bags so I'm very impressed.

I just bought a Bam! violin case, which is much lighter than my (very good) Negri case. The Bam! is polymer based, as opposed to the traditional wood case (cheap fiddle cases are polystyrene). They specialise in instrument cases, and have excellent reviews in the fiddle world for light-and-portable-but-fairly-strong - make them for lots of instruments (and have some cool styles).
