Ds came home from school with a french horn yesterday. He is 8 and likes loud noises. I am nearly 40 and don't. How long will it be before it gets better? Ds is fairly musical and has done g4 on his first instrument already. He was trying to play the first five notes of the scale but it mainly sounded LOUD, LOUD, LOUD, LOUDER, EVEN LOUDER.

dsis plays professionally and her main instrument is around 5k.

but then there is the 'spare', the wagner horn, a couple of historical instruments, many many mouth pieces, bags, cleaning equipment...

there also is the story of the incident of train doors closing on the instrument....

As the other have said, it's a professional level horn. Most of the horn players at DD school are on £2-£4K horns, but we got a grant to help pay for hers and so we managed to level up as it were. She's managed to get to Grade 8 on a compensating double so has done very well. It's what she wants to do. Her horn is absolutely her first love and she wants to play professionally.
