Private music lessons (not school based) - how do you pay?

If your dc have private music lessons can you tell me how and how often you pay please? I don't want to know how much.

Do you pay:

  • for each lesson as it happens - cash or cheque OR
  • monthly, half termly, termly, other - cash, cheque or direct bank transfer

    Many thanks.

I have to say, if our music teachers had insisted upon money up front for a whole term, then my dc wouldn't have had the lessons they have had - that's quite a lot of money to find for one lesson per week for one dc, but if you have 2,3,or4 dc, and/or dc who are learning more than one lesson, it would be impossible.

Termly in advance by cheque.

For one I pay per term, which is 10 lessons. Occasionally we miss one, she usually offers to make up, but if it's our fault then that's nice of her but she doesn't have to.

For the other she gave us the choice as to how to pay. We could pay termly, half termly, monthly or lesson by lesson. If we give 24 hour notice of not being there we don't pay, is the official rule. Having said that I've only once given less than that notice (sick child) and she didn't charge us.
I choose to pay half termly. She then writes her dd's book each week "1 of 6" at the top so I know how many I've paid for, and how many are left. When I pay the next half term, any fees left (or occasionally if I've miscalculated/extra lesson for some reason, outstanding ) I alter the next half term accordingly.

Both require the payment to be before not after, which is perfectly fair enough.

Cash each lesson to one, cheque each lesson to another. Half a term by bank transfer in advance for another.

Pupils pay me half termly in advance, cheque or cash as they prefer. One can't manage that so pays cash weekly which I'm happy with.
