Any suggestions- I am a music graduate so can obviously read music.

Or are there any online tutors (you tube etc) that anyone can particularly recommend?

I really recommend you get a teacher or some Skype lessons at least for the first few - you need someone to help you with the basics of technique and make sure you don't hurt yourself in the long run.

Past that... Doflein method provides good exercises but definitely isn't child friendly; a tune a day is always a good beginner's book; I tend to use a lot of folk music with adult beginners and most of it only uses basic finger positions 0-1-23-4 or 0-12-3-4.

Thanks! I actually have a good friend who is a violin and viola teacher and she has agreed to give me some lessons. I know how important the technique is with the violin so I want to make sure I get it right.
