Any idea on where to start regarding sponsorship for our team?

My son's ice hockey team have been invited to play in Beijing in 7 weeks time!! They are going to need suits, tracksuits, shirts ect.
Has anyone had any experience trying to get team sponsors? any particular companies that help grass roots sports? Should I try small local companies or big multi national? Any advice on how to word the letter/email?

No advice on how to get basic funding, but any big corporations do "fund matching" for any fundraising their employees do. It might be worth getting the other hockey parents to check their employers' policies. Pretty sure HSBC and Ernst and Young do it.
