Grin

Are any of your dcs doing an audition for the National Children's orchestra this month?

Dd (9) is trying for the under 11s orchestra. It is her first audition and she is violinist.

She is desperate to get in and I am hoping for the best for her! Smile

Yes, my ds is also auditioning for the first time. He is the same age as your dd and same instrument! Good luck!

morethanpotatoprints · 08/10/2013 22:47

Good luck to you both, my dd is the same age and instrument and isn't auditioning.
It's supposed to be really good.
I'm not sure my dd would like the residential and it all seems to be about this when I looked at the website and she prefers weekly rehearsals and concerts.

A lovely pupil of mine plays in the NCO, she loves it!Smile Good luck to all!!Smile

Yes dd (8) auditioned yesterday on cello - lovely people and very efficient set up. Think it's a very long shot for dd esp as she played hard (for her) pieces but she was so keen to do it - at the very least a very good experience and the feedback is supposed to be very helpful. Good luck to everyone :)

maggiethecat · 11/10/2013 11:07

Gampy, if it's her first audition and she's 9 she's eligible for training orchestra as well.

Good luck!

GampyWabbit · 13/10/2013 08:31

Maggie - she turns 10 before Dec. I don't know if that means she could get a place in either orchestra?

I too thought the audition process was excellent - we arrived, she went up, 15 mins later she arrived back looking happy!

Good luck everyone - mine has just re-auditioned for next year, she had a great time at the residential in the Summer and is desperate to get in again for next year.

stripycandycane · 13/10/2013 22:35

Dd is auditioning next week. She's been an associate member this year and has absolutely loved the regional rehearsals.

She's desperate to get in again as she has loved the experience, let's hope her audition goes well, I find it very nerve wracking! Smile

noteventhebestdrummer · 14/10/2013 06:53

What pieces did your DD play Gampy?

DarkHorse2013 · 14/10/2013 07:00

My DD is re auditioning this week. Has been in since she was 9 and loved it! Auditioning for the last time now - quite sad.
Good luck to everyone - fingers crossed!

GampyWabbit · 14/10/2013 08:23

La Folia, Corelli (not all of it!) and an old grade 6 piece. What about yours?

OP posts:
noteventhebestdrummer · 15/10/2013 07:13

Wow those sound like big pieces! Guessing from the Corelli she's done Suzuki?

GampyWabbit · 15/10/2013 20:38

Yes Suzuki! Is yours Suzuki trained too?

A long time ago, yes! I have 5 sons who played violin with NCO but these days they are all grown up, youngest is 16 now, plays violin with Hallé Youth as well as doing other musical things.

maggiethecat · 15/10/2013 22:51

Gampy, not sure - she may be under 11 then.
Love La Folia, beautiful piece - best wishes to your dd.

GampyWabbit · 15/10/2013 23:30

Me too Maggie Grin. I am mighty proud of her, whatever the outcome of this audition Smile

Dd had hers today - she was not happy with her sightreading. Think she took it for granted since last year was a breeze for her but she perhaps overlooked fact that it's a higher lever orchestra (under 11's) this year.
Now that I think of it, the performance by the Under 11's at the gala concert this year was stunning for children of their age.
I've told her that she has done good work and she can be pleased with that.

PopcornPizza · 24/10/2013 23:11

DS enjoyed his audition earlier this week and came home buzzing from the experience. However he is a bit daunted by the thought of a residential course without knowing anyone...will cross that bridge as and when needed. Good luck all!

maggiethecat · 27/10/2013 18:12

Popcorn, as long as he is not too daunted about being away from home he should be fine. It seems as if it's a great social experience and staff are good at the pastoral aspects. Dd only knew one person on the course and shared a room with 3 other girls and came back telling us of the things they got up to. It was clear that everyone had a very strong interest in music.

GampyWabbit · 28/10/2013 16:02

Will it definitely be dec that we hear the outcome of the audition?

OP posts:
maggiethecat · 29/10/2013 09:37

Yes Gampy. Probably about first week.

GampyWabbit · 06/12/2013 22:48

Dd got a place in under 11s orchestra with violin Grin. Very happy for her!!

Anyone else had results?

OP posts:
DarkHorse2013 · 06/12/2013 22:57

GampyWabbit Congratulations to your daughter - I hope she really enjoys it! My daughter has to wait until next week to find out as she's currently in U13s and auditioned for Main, and they don't get to find out until after this weekend's concert! Stress!

PopcornPizza · 06/12/2013 23:13

Well done Gampy's dd! Ds got into Training Orchestra and is thrilled with no signs of nerves about the course yet. Has anyone's dc experience of Regional orchestra?

GampyWabbit · 06/12/2013 23:34

Yay, well done to him!

Any info about the regional rehearsals and residential course would be greatly appreciated!
