Sewing brownie badges on-squares or diamonds?

Just got a fresh crop of badges to sew on. Should interest badges go as diamonds or squares? I only have one example to go on. These are sewn as diamonds. But if I sewed them side by side then more would fit in (hopeful dd may earn more than I ever did...)

Do them as diamonds, two on the first row, then just one with its point in the gap for the second row, then place two more on the third row. So you still get plenty on, but also they look nice

Job done-diamonds. If she goes mad then I can always see them on again

I bet they look super-she'll be thrilled to wear her uniform with her new badge on it. Plus, if it doesn't pass muster, suggest it's a perfect opportunity to pass on those sewing skills

I do now have the warm glow that comes from having done them. Replaces the equal and opposite guilt that comes from not doing them!

There are many ways of doing it. I made the rookie error of leaving gaps between my DD's badges ... I soon learned!

A double diagonal layout means that you can fit more into the triangular gaps on either side so that they overhang the edge, especially if you have the wide sash. That looks very impressive. You can get about 20 on the front that way.

Double square-on rows can have an overlapping diagonal set on top, going down the centre, which looks fabulous.

Just wait until you are unpicking them to put on her blanket once she starts Guides

Ah-rookie here! They look so nice with spaces...although if I do the maths, it just isn't going to work with spaces. When I was at brownies there were just the little triangular interest badges whereas a whole world of other badges is opening up. Who knew she'd get a special one for attending pack holiday-as well as the brownie holiday interest badge?!

I sense there'll be as much unpicking as sewing...

I did them as diamonds to start with, then had to unpick them and re-sew them as squares because she ran out of room. She currently has twelve, and still another year or two left at Brownies.

Somehow it looks presumtuous with a mere four interest badges to arrange them as if she's going to get them all! Badge sewing issues aside, brownies is proving fabulous for dd. She does fine at school, but it seems the range of activities and the freedom to choose what she wants to do badge wise is brilliant for her. And pack holiday boosted her confidence so much. Hooray for Brownie volunteers and I promise I'll do my turn!

Also bear in mind not all badges are square, we've had round ones and a gem shaped one for the diamond jubilee.

Ah, yes! The pack holiday one is rectangular. Is it really bad to have started those misfit ones on the back of the sash? Can't cope with slotting them in amongst my dd's nicely arranged diamonds!

Square interest badges on the front (plus six, trefoil & county) and all the other random shaped stuff on the back .

Thank you! Another two last night. I am sure this will slow down, because at the moment she's doing all the badges that can be signed off by other people from activities she already does. And some badges have a longer list of stuff to do than others, don't they? We could be accused of badge winning tactics at the moment, but hey, she loves it and is realising that lots of stuff she enjoys will win a badge. The librarian at the local library was so pleased to get involved and even suggested taking a whole group of brownies down.

Quick suggestion from a Brownie Leaader - don't unpick the badges to see onto a Guide camp blanket - sew the entire sash onto the blanket, badges and all.

I'd forgotten about that whole sash idea! I've seen blankets from when Guides had sashes too and they looked great with both sashes on.

Which reminds me - I've got SIX to sew on for Cubs tonight or DS will kill me!
