Do your dc do anything wildlife/nature related - Looking for a club

I would my dds to have a strong understanding of nature and was wondering if there are any clubs around?

I like the idea of them being outdoors, building dens, learning about flowers and wildlife

DD1 is 5yo.

She is already does Rainbows - I may have missed a trick there and should have signed her to beavers but not an option now.

Do you dc do anything like this?

DS1 does because he's in Beavers and I'm one of the leaders there and like wildlife type stuff. Could you ask if you could help lead the odd session, esp as we're in the summer term and can get out lots, even just to run about a woods?

There are Wildlife Watch groups that the Wildlife Trust run, I have a feeling thoug that they're for over 7s - might be worth checking.

You could also check if your local council run any of that sort of activity - I work with the local Ranger team, though they've suffered a massive budget hit and lots of those sorts of things have gone by the wayside.

Rainbows, and Brownies later, will do outdoorsy stuff (or should do if it is a good unit!)
How about getting some of the I-spy books, or Usbourne Spotter books and doing some DIY stuff.
Join the Young Ornithologists Club?
Look at web sites like the Woodland Trust, National Trust etc for local events you could go along to?

I had a look at wildlife watch as it seemed exactly what I was after. But I could only see where schools can join up in my area.

Give them a call - they might have one that meets in a local park or something.

Her Rainbow group is very good - that's why I don't want to move her now. Hopefully they will do more nature wise now the weather is improving. She only joined last winter so its been all indoors so far.

We do a lot of walks and activities at the local country park. But I'm not very well informed myself and having dd2 (2yo) limits how far we can walk atm.

If they ever need any ideas at Rainbows (if something for yourselves todo), the Woodland Trust's Nature Detectives website has loads of easy things to do, for that sort of age range.

Our school has a wild life club. It's run by an outside group who are very Eco friendly and offer a wide variety of projects and events.

You might even find once you start asking, there may even be something at your nearby country park, or they've been thinking about it but just need a parent or two to show there is the interest out there.

Wildlife Watch is what you want. DS joined while still in reception (our group asked a parent/carer to stay at that age). Has made dens, water vole survey, pond dipping, toasted marshmallows over a fire they built themselves, butterfly spotting, made hedgehog house etc. The Wildlife Trust also offer activities suitable for families.
