Hi, I am looking for a good violin teacher for my 3.5 year old. We already tried a suzuki group in our area but he absolutely hated it. He is much better with old fashioned 1 to 1 instruction. Could somebody please recommend a tutor?

Have a look at Colourstrings, which has 1-2-1 tuition along with musicianship classes and ensembles. However, you would need to start your DC in their "kindergarten" music classes which teach important music skills (pitch, rhythm, pulse etc.) before attempting an instrument. IMO it's an excellent system that produces skilled, disciplined players.

Have you considered that maybe 3 is a bit young to start on such a fiendishly difficult instrument as violin?

Thanks for your replies! His older brother is taking violin lessons, but plays a 1/2 size instrument, so he is very kin to follow in his steps and plays little "concerts" on the big violin every night. I just ordered him a small one. He is not very good with group lessons so not sure about colourstrings working for him.

Just to clarify, Colourstrings does not do group instrumental lessons.

My dc started violin at 3.5 with the suzuki method. We love it & they are doing amazingly now 5.5 yrs on. Would it help to try a different suzuki teacher??
