Anyone's dc auditioning for NCO?

So, as the title says ... anyone's dc auditioning for the National Children's Orchestra?
DS has his at the end of October. He's good, but not amazing, so he's realistically trying to get a place in the training orchestra. I teach him myself, and I don't really know anything about the NCO or the auditions, other than what I've read on the website. Can anyone give me any tips to help him to be as prepared as possible?

Well done her maggiecat!

Thanks Incog. She seems very cool about the whole thing but I know she is pleased.

Colleger, do you know anything about NYOS apart from what's on their website? I was wondering if it is very similar to NCO because if so we might opt for Scotland instead and avoid all of the travel issues.

Did your ds attend regional rehearsals, and if he did, were they considered to be worth the effort? I expect that some people will be travelling long distances to attend these monthly.

The reality of the commitment and expense is sinking in!

Regional rehearsals are rubbish. NYOS looks good as it goes up to 25 so more prestigious than NCO thought not as good as NYO.
