My dd has been selected to get school clarinet lessons and is really excited about it. However dentist has said she needs braces on her lower teeth and possibly the uppers in the future. Does anyone know if it is possible to play clarinet with braces? Dd thinks if she tells the music teacher about the braces she might not be allowed to do the lessons (not sure if this is true) Grateful for any advice.

A friend's dd plays the clarinet with braces on both her upper and lower teeth.

I am a clarinet teacher- braces don't seem to cause my pupils any problems after they have got used to them.

Hello.

I played clarinet with braces and didn't have any problems. However, I would check with your dentist that the style your dd will have will be compatable.
My dd plays saxophone but dh said it was really important not to play any woodwind instrument until second teeth are fully developed. He is a famous pro musician with 25 years educating (woodwind) portfolio. I'm sure school wouldn't recommend it if she wasn't suitable. However, would check with dentist.

Hi potato prints please can you ask your dh a bit more about that for me

dd has just started the clarinet at 8 but is only just getting top 2 teeth, should we stop him?
thanks

My DD plays sax with braces - similar mouthpiece to clarinet. Absolutely no issues.
