Are summer holidays too full already?

DD is busy this summer

She has 2 weeks at theatre school, 1 week at dance school, a Sunday comp, 7 shows (2 Dance, 3 theatre, 1 choir & 1 drumming)

Once a week a Saturday morning class & once a week a Monday & Thursday evening

She is begging for another 4 day course & I'm not sure

I'm a bit ambivalent about it - she is having sleepovers and days with friends; but I work pretty much all summer (apart from our week off) so if she were younger she would be in childcare.......so is this that different?

If she is begging sounds like she is up for it. From another thread I assume she is 14 - really, could do much worse then a dance course! I would let her dance her feet away :) (PS if you can afford it of cause )

I think I've overfilled summer too. Three week long music courses with a week between one and two weeks between the other. The two weeks is a long haul holiday. I'll late you know if we've overdone it by the end of the holidays!

Tricky - if I leave it much longer they may have no space (they may have no space even now)

But she might be too tired

But then it is after our family holiday which should be relaxing

she seems to have limitless energy Katy. I am frankly jealous of her verve. Maybe she is not a dc who needs much relaxation and is happier busy. To me the 7 shows would be quite a bit of stress but maybe she gets a big adrenlin surge out of those. THe week of dance she will obviously enjoy to the hilt and I imagine the acting course will be sociable and a lot of fun.

I think she is probably already doing enough. You wrote elsewhere that she likes to write or draw, I can't remember which, maybe just a bit of time lounging about and she will find herself doing more of that.

What is the 4 day course she wants to do?

KatyMac · 25/07/2012 09:59

the 4 day Jazz one

it will help her get back into the dance after your holiday and you will have to be at work anyway so at least you'd know where she is and what she is doing for the 4 days. I think why not do it.

KatyMac · 25/07/2012 16:26

The shows are easy for her - well the choir & drumming are. Choir is once every 2 months or so - she is a very part-time member & drumming concerts are maybe every 2-3 weeks The dance shows are a bit more stressful as she is trying to move up classes; but based on last year the theatre ones will be fun

I wondered about it getting her in condition for September; but the travelling is harsh out the house 6:50 - 7:30 - but it's only 4 days

I just can't decide

does she go straight back to school the next week or does she have a break between the jazz course and school?

KatyMac · 25/07/2012 18:24

She goes back the following Thursday (6th) so a fair break I guess

she has such a busy weekly term time schedule that a slower pace in the holidays would do her good IMO, give her some strength for next school year where you say she will have to work harder at the dancing to move up a class. With that in mind, coming back from holiday and having a week and a have to unwind is not a bad thing.

She is an active girl by the sounds of things who thrives on activity so she may well get a boost from the course rather than be worn out by it. However since it is an early start, maybe you could give it a miss this summer but keep it in mind for another time. Would she be awfully disappointed?

ZZZenAgain · 25/07/2012 18:43

sorry that is supposed to read week and a half

KatyMac · 26/07/2012 07:18

She has decided that the early start will be too much

Which is something of a relief tbh

that's good, one thing less to worry about! Enjoy your holiday

Thanks for helping me through the whole 'decision making'

Glad it's over Smile
