How many John Thompson books before Grade 1 piano?

Strange question, but how many of the John Thompson books did your DC go through before they were entered for Grade 1 piano?

Piano teacher said after the first four books, then it will be time to look at exam pieces. Is this the same for everyone else?

Dd did 4 then grade 1 exam

Clearly they are books for learning how to play the piano. There are many different methods out there.

I learned using John Thompson books. But I use different ones for the kids.

My DS has done 3 and is about to do grade 1 theory.

DD did 2 JT books, BUT then used other books (ie, A Dozen A Day, Suzuki, etc). After she did a few different books, teacher started teaching scales and pieces.
