DD going for a trial session at Rainbows this week - what to expect?

Hello, just wondered if anyone whose DDs already attend Rainbows could let me know what to expect from a session?
My DD was 5 last month and I have been offered the possibility of a place for her in September. I have spoken to the lady twice on the phone and she sounds lovely but a bit ancient!! (I'll probably turn up and she'll be in her 50's!). I didn't go to Brownies or Guides when I was younger so have no experience of the Girl Guiding Association at all.
My DD is very sociable, loves making new friends, doing arts and crafts, singing, dancing and from what I have heard and read about Rainbows it sounds like it would be a good match for her.

i went to rainbows, brownies, guides, rangers and was then a young leader and am only 20 so my info cant be that out of date!

in rainbows we did lots of arts and crafts e.g. easter hats, mothers / fathers day cards, celebrated birthdays, cooked seasonal foods, played games, went camping and LOVED it.

from what youve described of your DD it sounds like she will love it!

DD started in January and loves it. I had to go joyfully attended the "mother and daughter" session near mother's day and, from my experience, they seem to start with a spot of running around like wild things with loads of toys, then they stand in a ring and, IIRC, say "Hello I'm Soupdragon" to introduce themselves and sit down. There is some kind of craft activity, a drink and a biscuit and games. The craft thing seems to be linked into a theme (e.g. penguin: they drew penguins, iced penguin biscuits and cooked fish fingers )

THere is a lot of noise and chaos!

Depends on the unit but some do arts an crafts, games, songs and the hour passes quickly. Dd loved rainbows and is now a guide and a pack leader in my brownie pack.

Volunteers are usually very friendly and know what they are doing.
