Grade 5 Theory - anyone used an App for this?

Can anyone recommend an iPhone app for Grade 5 theory preparation?
DS1 probably needs to take this early next year and through a combination of workbooks and lessons in school is mid way through grade 3 at the moment. I anticipate having to pay for some lessons in a final push towards the exam but want to get as much done without lessons as possible so wondered whether an iphone app would be the way go. I see there are a few about but not a lot of reviews so any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks
k.

I wish there was - have also been looking. I think the abrsm is missing a trick here. The apps I have looked at so far concentrate on very weird stuff and seem pretty hopeless for the theory exams

ah shame - thought I had struck on a great solution then Sad
thanks.

I found doing a bit at home at bed time with them each night helped. Not heard of an app.

kitkat have you heard of any sightreading ones

kitkat1967 · 02/05/2012 07:45

So had a look in itunes store and there are loads of apps for music theory (including sight reading) but most of them have very poor reviews. Also there are none that say they prepare for grade 5 theory exam so not sure how relevant they would be anyway.

Dh can rcommend some good websites, but not apps.

Meant to add abrsm do one for aural tests, but not theory. He thinks it's very good, but not particularly user friendly.

maggiethecat · 02/05/2012 10:27

schilke, would be glad to know which websites.

pigsinmud · 02/05/2012 12:05

www.musictheory.net/index.html
www.mymusictheory.com
www.theory.classycoolmusic.com/wp_theory/

I dragged these off his website. He has lots more about exam preparation on there, but don't want to out myself Smile

This is a website again, but some of these are good. Theory drills. You have to pick and choose a bit though (so ignore the guitar frets one etc.).

Ds2 used memrise to learn EVERY SINGLE ONE of the theory words, then wa disappointed when only a really easy one came up!

He used the Trinity workbooks gr1-4, as they're a bit more fun than the AB ones.

He pretty much taught himself it all in 12 months, then had 3 lessons on composition.

It wasn't as hard as I'd thought it would be.

Good luck!

I may be wrong, but don't nintendo do something like this for ds? Might be worth looking into
