Any suggestions for where to look for nicely cut concert/evening wear for 10-11 yo boy ? Tried all sorts of places but seemed to be very limited choice especially for his size.

WEll, what are you looking for ? Mine have always either worn school uniform, of 'black trousers / white shirt', which you can get anywhere. Confused

pianomama · 27/04/2012 13:20

I was thinking black waistcoat, butterfly collar shirt + bow tie sort of thing

wing collar shirts from a wedding outfitters? may even have waistcoat and trousers

I got a little black suit from M&S and bow tie for my 6yo son who wanted to look like 007 was playing in a violin concert.

The Old Covered Market it Birmingham had beautiful proper suits for little boys.
I've no idea why. I wonder if some of the African or American evangelical churches wear them.
I know I used to avoid answering my door to very smartly dressed Father and son groupsBlush

Our very good pianist wears a bright coloured waist coat, but he's older.

Sounds great, Birmingham would be a bit too far to go though..

Can I ask where you got your waistcoat from? We used to have a black velvet one from Gap (on sale for £5) but its just got too small. I always envy boys wearing lovely waistcoats but have no idea where people get them from - custom made ?

My son wears a suit from Marks and Spencer's for his music concerts.

If you're still looking, Debenhams do waistcoats.

pianomama · 01/05/2012 14:34

Thanks - never thought of Debenhams! Looks like we are sorted :)

What about just wearing all black? Black trousers & black shirt - much more comfortable than a bow tie.

lancelottie · 02/05/2012 12:59

Schilke, DS loves wearing a black shirt to concerts -- makes him feel quite the rebel.

pianomama · 02/05/2012 13:01

I think my DS will like the James Bond look too (even though he is fond of bow ties and waist coats). BUT where you you get your black shirts from ?

Aahh - never bought one for my ds, he has only ever had to wear black trousers & white shirt. Dh has to wear black shirts for gigs quite often - much prefers that to tails!

I did a quick google - black shirt here

pigsinmud · 02/05/2012 14:46

ebay black shirt

pianomama · 02/05/2012 15:23

Thanks schilke - he will look really handsome in it. And they do waistcoats too.
