DD is very attracted to ice skating. What is the best way to learn - private lessons?

Private lessons are fantastic. I started to learn age 3 and within six months could skate alone, turn, skate backwards and get up properly from a fall (I know this from video footage). I didn't carry it on but I wish I did.

Wow!

DD is 7. She has been skating a couple of times but is frustrated at not being able to skate properly. She has very strong legs and is ultra well-coordinated (thanks to her paternal lineage!), and likes music and dancing but is absolutely not a slim little ballerina type. Skating sounded (possibly) like quite a promising thing for her to do.

I skated for over 10 years as a kid.. Kept me out of trouble during my teenage years.. Excellent fitness, the competitions and shows we did were amazing.. I've never smoked or done drugs I owe all that to my coach and friends there..

When I took DD to our local skating rink for the first time it was a Sunday afternoon and, yes, I must say I was impressed at how many teenagers were there - being kept of sloth or trouble!

DD and I are following the Skate UK programme. It will vary by area but it's a clear progression and we are both enjoying it! You can search on there for a local rink to you that runs it. Smile

We aren't in the UK, but thank you all the same!

Ah - sorry! Hope you find something that suits Smile

She's having a week of private lessons right now! All the family bar me is on a ski-ing holiday right now and, inspired by this thread, I encouraged DP to see whether he could take the children skating and find a teacher. And he did! And she is making great progress, apparently. All well and good.
