Probably quite stupid question about Beavers uniform

DS started this week and I was just about to order him a sweatshirt as advised by Squirrel but one of his friends also has a polo shirt so DS wants both.

Presumably he will need a polo shirt in the summer so he will need both, won't he? But then where do we sew the badges? Polo shirt or sweatshirt?

On the sweatshirt

ChasingSquirrels · 01/02/2012 17:50

on the jumper

Sinkingfeeling · 01/02/2012 17:50

Sweatshirt. I've had 3 dc in Beavers and none of them have had a polo shirt.

ChippyMinton · 01/02/2012 17:51

Badges go on the sweatshirt.
Polo shirt is usually worn underneath, so they can remove sweatshirt when doing activities etc.

QED · 01/02/2012 17:52

Sweatshirt :) DS had a polo shirt as well but nothing got sewn onto it.

See, now you say it, it's totally obvious! Thank you.

And Mutt excellent tip, thank you.

I can't help thinking that they should get them to do their Sewing badge first then they could sew them all on themselves...

Good luck with that. We tried to teach our cubs to sew on a badge as specified in their home helper badge or whatever and the results were frankly laughable. If you want them to stay on, just do it yourself. For about the next six years. Grin

And I won't even tell you the crap we got from the dads for teaching their sons to vacuum, and to iron their neckerchief...

gaunyerseljeannie · 01/02/2012 18:17

too cold where we are to take of sweatshirt so never needed polo shirt Grin

I tried to sew ds's badges on. Looked terrible, so i used wonderweb for the rest. :)

Here the Scouts group (Beavers through to Explorer Scouts) has a 'group' polo shirt that can be worn under any of the 'section' uniforms.

So DS has never had a 'section' polo, just the 'top layer' for each stage (Beavers, Cubs amd now Scouts). DD, who joined at Cubs level, has a 'group' polo shirt and the Cub sweatshirt. The polos are handy for camps, messy stuff and the summer.

LondonMumsie · 01/02/2012 18:38

DH sews all the badges here. I have told him I don't know how...

BerthaTheBogBurglar · 01/02/2012 18:53

You need BadgeFix glue

(or look for Loctite 595 on ebay - it's the same stuff).

And here is where to put the badges - handy picture

Ds1 has a polo shirt cos someone gave it to us but most of them wear jeans, a tshirt and a Beaver jumper that is too big for them Grin.

Thanks for the badge advice!

Ok so if I'm going for a bigger one then how big? He's 6.5 years old and tall but skinny. I measured his chest and he's 27 inches so do I go for a 30 inch one, do you think? Surely 32 inches would look ridiculous?
