Summer school music - anyone's dc doing one, any recommendations?

dd was interested in the Cadenza one but she is too young. Wondering if anyone knows anything they'd recommend or just wants to chat about them.

Looked at Beauchamp House which seems nice.

What instrument? SL has had very successful dealings with Oxford Cello School.

I went to Dartington when I was at uni but there were whole families there from very young children to senior citizens

I've heard good things about Beauchamp House (it's GAM there isn't it?). Also Pro Corda or MusicWorks depending on the age.

yes it is GAM at Beauchamp House. Dartington looks good but reading around the site, it sounds as if it is aimed more at grown-ups with children needing to be accompanied by an adult at all times. Am still trying to figure out how exactly the scheduling works there but it looks very good.

I found an old thread on here asking about residential courses for grade 5 theory and some of these came up (Pro Corda for instance). MusicWorks I don't know. Will go off and google.

someone mentioned Spode (?) to me but I think it is more for musically inclined adults with a children's programme alongside to keep them occupied. Does anyone know if that is right? With us it would need to be something for musically inclined children with if anything a programme to keep parents out of trouble.

Not sure where you are based. A lot of kids near here do Hindhead Summer Music which is in Surrey, but DD tried it and while she had a great time, I found the woman who runs the centre a bit eccentric . . .

we're in the Czech Republic so wouldn't really matter too much where it was for us IYSWIM

have enough eccentricity with the violin as it is tbh, not sure I want a whole lot more!

Has anyone been to Spode (? think it is) as a non instrumental playing adult or is it more for musical adults with a programme on the side to keep dc occupied? It sounds a bit that way to me and we'd need it the other way round

that does look attractive bramshott. Did your dc do the residential option? Perhaps not if you live near there.

That I could combine quite nicely with a mad shopping spree in London and various other practical things that need doing. Thanks for that. I'm having a look around the site at the courses atm

shame they don't seem to do violin but looksl nice for cello/wind. Only thing dd could do would be the last one for orchestra instruments and I am not entirely sure but I think it would be a bit below her current orchestral level. Hard to say. Do like the look of that place though. Will keep a note of it.

Ah - I didn't realise they didn't offer violin. DD did the 'Discover Music' course, as she is still quite young.

For this year Marialuisa, I think I'll leave it. I like to book things way ahead but it is good to know what is available. Had never heard of that one. I can understand your dd, when the weather is nice best to profit from it and go out on her pony.

have to ask the teacher about Kodaly, don't know anything about it other than that they do colour strings I think.
