Any Banjo players out there?

DH wants to learn the banjo (think he actually wants to torture our teenage DDs TBH Grin)

I am a musician who plays quite a few instruments but have no idea about banjos.Confused

He wants to teach himself from a book and using videos.

Have looked on the gear4music site as have bought guitars from there in the past. They seem to be around £150.

I have managed to work out that the most common one people seem to use is the 5 string (resonator/ open back ) but have no idea about what would be a good beginner make to start with (some forums have warned against dirt cheap or second hand ones.)

HEEEEEYLP

DH has a banjo but he can't play it. It looks good, is a white flying V. Was much cheaper than £150 though.
He also has a mandolin and he can't play that either.
He also has 5 guitars and is having lessons.
Not much help, sorry Grin

Bumping for more.
Another question- resonator or open back?
