DS1 is 6 and loves his bike.
We showed him a youtube video of kids his age on a track nearest to us.
He's keen. DH can't wait.
I'm a bit PFB about it all and can't bear to watch.

What if he falls?
Help me!

We're going on Sunday.

I don't myself (yet! they're too young) but we live near a major mountain bike trail centre and all the wee kids are obsessed with the jumps - yes he will fall, but they all seem quite bouncy... no help i know really - teh mums i know who have children your age are filled with mix of pride adn dread. i do know that fullface helmets are too big and heavy for a 6 year old, whatever you might want, they culd really cause damage to bendy young necks, but there is quite a lot of body armour available and neck braces are becoming actual trendy!

he manages some easy mountain biking here and i actually think the bmx track will be safer (less rivers/bridges/tree roots).

God, i can't even listen to myself. So pathetic.

Fantastic NG!
DS1 was keen on BMX racing from age 6-7. He never did all that well, but I know what you mean about it making you nervous to watch. Under 10s don't do the really dangerous stuff, it's when they get to the age (mid-teens) that they can do the flying jumps alongside others doing flying jumps that I'd be real scared.

he did so well. i underestimated him.
anyway, I'm totally PFB now and looking to get him a proper BMX bike.

They are well worthwhile for keen cycling families. DC have used ours to win road and Grass track races, too. A good quality one will have high resale value, too. We got ours from Cycle Sport, but I think Wiggle might do some good ones. Ask for advice at your local club, sometimes you can can pick up a good 2nd hand one at a meet.

thank ragged, we took some advice from the guys at the track who recommended us a couple of bikes to look out for. bearing in mind the resale value, we've gone ahead and ordered him a new one.
seems a fair upgrade from his reconditioned bike we bought him last for only £25.

I can't wait for his next race.
