where's the best (cheapest) place to get kids' riding gear?

dd's had some riding lessons this summer and is now even more pony-obsessed than she was before

I've told her she can have pony club sessions and riding gear for her birthday, but as she's growing like a weed (she's a very tall 7) I don't want to spend a fortune on stuff she'll only be in for a few months

so, any recommendations for decent but not bank-breaking jodphurs, hats etc?

Decathlon were quite reasonable, £10.99 for boots, £10 for jodhpurs. The riding hats all seem to be around £40 and a good investment, not something she will grow out of too quickly.

A large Tesco hyper-store.
Got (shocking pink) jodpurs for about £15 I think, plus ankle boots and chaps, a whip (pink again!) and a hat.
Really reasonable and none of the farting about and angst of sizing you have with ebay.

Another vote for Tescos.

The other thing is, ask around the pony club, as I am always happy to pass on stuff that's still in reasonable nick (joddys, back protectors) but I would advise getting a new hat for safetys sake, unless you know where it came from - bit like a car seat.

next question - how much stuff does she actually need? I seem to remember all I had was a hat and wellies, but there seems to be a lot of kit available

Please get a hat fitted by someone who knows what they're doing (which probably means going to a reputable saddlers where staff have had training). If it doesn't fit correctly then it will be a lot more likely to move if she falls off, which will prevent it protecting her head properly.

robinsons are always cheap - would be fine for kids. She actually needs - a hat, jods, boots and probably a body protector - though i'd try to source that s/hand

I'd probably add a pair of gloves to the list - could be considered a safety thing as can dramatically improve grip on wet reins.

eek - I'd just assumed I could get a hat online, but dd does have a very small head (doesn't look like it, but hats/helmets always tricky), so getting a correctly fitted one would probably be a good idea
