Anyone else signed up for Red January?

DH and I have. Hoping it will keep me motivated and kickstart my half marathon training which has been non existent so far
Am aiming for a mix of gym, run, walk and cycle to get my target of being active every day and fingers crossed it's doable

Haven't signed up to anything, but will be running or cycling every day in January. Is that what Red January is?

DJattheendoftheworld · 29/12/2019 20:39

I've signed up - it will be my 3rd year. I'm aiming to run most days, with a bit of strength training on days I can't get out due to childcare.

Hunkyd0ry · 29/12/2019 20:41

Friend sent me the link. Never heard of it before!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 29/12/2019 21:27

I'm going to do a mix of running, gym, cycling and walking
Just means I can try and be active every day in what is the worst, darkest month of the year
Hoping it'll keep me well mentally and get good habits for the whole year

I did it last year - taking it more literally than you need to and actually ran every day ('rest' days were a short gentle run if no more than 20 mins, 'proper' runs 3 or 4 times a week)

I built fitness more than I realised - and ran my 10k PB at the start of February.

I've not signed up formally this year, but will be making a running plan to get me back on form in the New Year (two spring half marathons) after an attack of Xmas lazyitis

RubySlippers77 · 30/12/2019 22:31

I've signed up but won't be running every day, more like aiming to keep my step count high (15K+). Such a good idea!

MotherOfSoupDragons · 30/12/2019 22:55

Surely if you have test days you're not running every day. Confused.

MotherOfSoupDragons · 30/12/2019 22:55

*rest

Craftycorvid · 30/12/2019 23:02

Thought this was some sort of socialist for a month thread...oh well, as you were 🤔

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 31/12/2019 13:47

To be fair the kids thought I'd signed up to drink red wine every dayBlush

Yes, I joined, never done It before, does it tell you what to do?

megletthesecond · 31/12/2019 17:03

I signed up but I didn't realise it was a sponsored thing so I've kind of ignored it now.
I'll try and do it anyway. I like the t-shirts, I've seen few people wearing them at parkrun crossing off their days on the back

Spudlet · 31/12/2019 17:05

Me! I’m doing the Yoga with Adriene 30 day challenge and starting half marathon training too. Won’t be running every day as I don’t think my joints would like it. But will be running three days a week with one gym session to cross-train (pretty much what I was doing before but the yoga will be a new addition!).

LuckyLuckyWoman · 31/12/2019 17:14

Yep, I'm planning to run most days, static bike and cross trainer on the non running days

Good luck everyone

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 01/01/2020 06:18

I’m here! Got mega injured last year but all my own silly fault. I love RED January.

They’ve still not sent me my T-shirt though [misses point]

AuntieStella · 01/01/2020 07:19

meglet - the fundraising is entirely optional (but you do get a medal if you raise anything at all, even just a token amount from yourself)

MotherOfSoupDragons - the name was created years back when it was literally running every day. Now it's about taking some form of activity every day, which doesn't have to be running.

For runners on proper training plans (16 weeks to VLM) and for novice runners, rest days are important. That's why planned ones are also OK, especially if your 'rest' is actually going for a walk or cross training

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 01/01/2020 10:43

Trying to decide what to do today
Given that I didn't see my bed till 3Blush think it'll be a brisk walk this afternoon Grin

ShinyGiratina · 01/01/2020 14:24

I'm in and proudly wore my t-shirt at parkrun and was far from the only one. I can now rotate 2020, 2019 and 2018 Grin

I aim to run most days, get outside at least and at the very minimum do some yoga on day 23 when I'm tired and ground down by a cold and it's pissing down with rain again Wink

I do some longer runs but have a lot of "rest days" of a gentle 1-2 mile run. I do love it for pushing me out at a time of year when I could happily hide under the duvet until the daffodils come out to play.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 01/01/2020 15:58

Half hour brisk walk round the park
Probably wouldn't have got off the sofa ordinarily after a heavy New Year's Eve but having committed to this didn't want to fall at the first hurdle
One down thirty to go

Makesomenoiseforthevengaboys · 01/01/2020 16:59

I'm in! Going to do a mile walk once Maria and the weans are safely over the mountain Grin

Littlepigsmig · 01/01/2020 17:00

I've signed up, haven't done anything as yet. Thinking of a quick jog, due to illness I haven't been out in over three weeks so it'll be tough. I did a bit of yoga the other day and I could feel the mince pies I've consumed these past few weeks!!

Well done on all who have been out, I signed up last year and was struck down with a chest infection so couldn't do all 31 days so I wanted to sign up this year to try and do all 31 days.

CalamityJune · 01/01/2020 17:03

I'm doing it. Walking and yoga.

HerondaleDucks · 01/01/2020 17:28

I'm signed up. Did a hungover walk today. Planning to do it through weigh training, intervals, classes and walks for rest days. Boom. Let's go

GroggyLegs · 01/01/2020 19:57

I pulled my 2018 t-shirt out of the back of the drawer and did a steady two miles.

My creaky knees won't let me run everyday, but I'm determined to get my 10k steps. I donate £1 for each day I miss, which means I don't feel too bad if I miss a few.

Skatesbythesea · 01/01/2020 20:07

Yes! Walking, gym, yoga etc.
