My run home was an utter fail my bag broke!!! :(

Anglaise1 · 24/06/2015 20:41

Thanks Family I did it last year and got a podium but was V1 then, there are some strong V2 ladies in the area and if they run again I won't win. But it is a nice (and very local) race to do.
11.9 miles from me, a few from my dog run and the majority from my evening run training with my friend training for the Mont Blanc 100km trail.1 hour at 9.5kms and then 20mins at 13kph.
11.9 + 3.1 from Bangingthedrums, no idea about last queen
1007.3

Anglaise Good luck this weekend- enjoy and i'm sending podium vibes your way. I try not to think about podium as I find I waste far too much time when I should be working analysing the participant lists, but it's hard not to- we all like a nice trophy, right?

Adding 6.3 to make 1013.6. Sweaty flat run with a friend along the catchwater, including down "spider alley" which was something like an Indiana Jones film- just web after web across the path with spider's as big as your palm sitting in each one. Had to basically limbo under them. At one point I had this giant spider hanging off my hair. Good job I'm not squeamish.

Finally, without wanting to be a total MN stalker, where is Suzanne?

Neeko · 25/06/2015 06:54

Oh my goodness. That spider run sounds horrific! Shock

Anglaise1 · 25/06/2015 07:34

Thanks AggressiveI got a podium there last year, the trophy is a nice carved wooden sabot (clog), not bothered about another and because my Mt Blanc friend is in the same category doing the same race she will probably beat me anyway!
I asked the same question about Suzanne last week. Missing her and her mileage, I hope she is OK. Nothing from Actiongirl either. I hope both are OK.

My only last trophy was wood as well. I took it home to be met by a narrowing of the eyes from DS who asked "Why isnt it gold?" because in the world of pre-schoolers where Peppa Pig is gospel, all trophies worth having are real plastic gold.

HalleLouja · 25/06/2015 09:05

Aggressive I was wondering about Suzanne too. I know she was having problems with her PITA.

cinnamongreyhound · 25/06/2015 09:33

I didn't go this morning Sad ds3 has slept 9 hours the last 4 nights and my boobs hurt so much no way I could run! Was lucky this morning as he was up at 6 and I'm not normally home until 7! Race tomorrow eeek!

Good luck with your race Anglaise1! Are you and your friend running together or both going at your own pace?

Rubbish about your bag lastqueenofscotland! Hope you get a nice shiny new one soon Flowers

emummy · 25/06/2015 10:21

Good luck with races Anglaise and Cinnamon, hope all goes well.
Wee recovery run from me this morning, went quite fast for me, should have chocolate cake for breakfast more often! It's my birthday and dcs always insist on having cake as soon as the candles are out. Luckily they didn't use the correct number of candles for my age or the cake would have melted!
Aggressive well done in coping with the spiders, I am impressed!

1015.7

Whowouldfardelsbear · 25/06/2015 10:43

Hello all - sorry been rubbish at keeping up but hello to all the new comers! I'm not so experienced myself - started C25K at end of Jan this year.

We've rented a treadmill and set it up in the garage so I did my first ever treadmill run of 5k on Tuesday night. It felt very odd and I don't like it as much as normal running but it is so cold and windy here at the moment it is a good option (and I can run while DH is out).

I felt wobbly and seasick for ages after once I was on steady ground!

So 3.1 from me . . .

cinnamongreyhound · 25/06/2015 13:31

Happy birthday emummy Cake

suzannecanthecan · 25/06/2015 13:35

Hello :o
I am still doing it!
I have 152.66 miles to add so far this month =1171.66

my PITA is now downgraded to mild SITA (stiffness in the arse)

I was also wondering about Actiongirl

cinnamongreyhound · 25/06/2015 14:00

Love that suzannecanthecan pita to sita Grin

BobblesAndClips · 25/06/2015 15:22

Not liking the sound of the spider run either!

Happy birthday emummy have some more Cake Grin

I'm planning to get out and stretch my legs tonight, before my first 10k this weekend. Am both excited and nervous, I keep thinking everyone will be sprinting off at the start and I'll be left tootling along on my own at the back...

familygermsareok · 25/06/2015 15:33

Good to see you are ok suzanne, Grin at SITA too!

Happy birthday emummy, sounds like perfect pre run carb loading Wink

Good luck with your races too this weekend cinnamon and runtothehills . Hope babies, boobs and weather all good Smile

Don't like the sound of those spiders Aggressive Shock . I'm fine with UK sized ones but those would have me shivering!

15.1 miles from me today, mixture of trail and quiet country roads. Tried out my new waistband bottle holder and found it to be very comfy and not irritating at all so pleased with that. Didn't get much chance to stop for water though as I'd collected a cloud of flies which landed on me as soon as I slowed or stopped so that kept me going. More effectively than DS1's Zombie app I reckon too!

1171.66 + 15.1 = 1186.76

familygermsareok · 25/06/2015 15:46

Good luck with your 10k too Bobbles. Don't worry if you do see people sprinting away, some will be able to maintain that but an awful lot will just be over enthusiastic and will have to slow down and get overtaken later by the runners who have paced themselves better at the start. Speaking as one who had a tendency to set off way too fast and then get overtaken by all the runners I gleefully sailed past earlier Blush
Pacing is the key, don't set off too fast, you can always pick it up later if you want to. And enjoy yourself, it is a great experience and fantastic achievement Smile

horseygeorgie · 25/06/2015 15:59

Hallo!
Can I join your thread?
I'm 31 and a single mum. I am currently about 18 stone but I love running. Very slow puffy running! The first time I ever ran was 9 weeks before the great north run in 2012. I completed in 2:42:43 which is a horrifically slow time but I am so proud of doing it! I have been sporadically running ever since. I went out for the first time in month today and did 4 miles at 11.15 mins a mile. I take my spaniel and terrier with me and we love it! The spaniel is like running with a very slim athletic friend who runs at 8 min miles. He stops to wait for me bless him!

shovetheholly · 25/06/2015 18:29

Can I join too? I've been ill for the past two years, and unable to get upstairs at times, let alone run. I've lost all of my fitness and I have put on literally half my bodyweight again. Sad

So I'm just starting to ease back into it. And struggling, if I'm honest. It's hard not to compare my pathetic efforts now with where I was before. (Don't get me wrong, I was never a quick runner! It's just I am so much slower now).

Massive props to all those larger ladies who are running. I'm a touch over a normal BMI and it is SO much harder than when I was slimmer. Every time I see someone out who is larger but giving it all the welly they have got, I feel utter respect. It is really, really inspiring.

Anglaise1 · 25/06/2015 18:44

Nice to have you back Suzanne you have been missed. And it shows how much mileage you contribute each month, wow! Glad to hear that your PITA has decreased.
Runtothehills and Cinammon good luck with your races. And Bobbles how exciting your first 10k! Family has given some good advice, don't get put off by everyone else setting off at 15kph just go at the pace you know you can maintain. Don't eat anything different before your race and hydrate really well for the days before your race, not the hour before. Good luck!
Welcome Horsey and Shove, the running will definitely get easier as the weight comes off. Stick with it!
6.3 miles in 29°C this afternoon with a couple of girlfriends, thank goodness for footpaths and the shade of trees in the countryside in hot weather.

Thanks Anglaise:o
pita is in the background, I can feel that it will come back if I overdo it but 11ish miles every other day seems to work for me.
I did try smaller more frequent runs (at the same weekly mileage) but that seemed to spark it off again.

Horsey 11:15 pace is just fine, running has a high minimum intensity so even at the slow steady speeds you are still challenging your heart and lungs and using a lot of energy.
Also much safer from an impact/injury point of view:)
if you just keep at it your speed may just naturally drift up as your running style becomes more proficient

suzannecanthecan · 25/06/2015 19:49

Shove what in particular are you struggling with?
It's absolutely fine to start back with the basics, ie walk-run intervals

Feeling a bit shite think I need a rest day.

Anglaise1 · 25/06/2015 21:11

last queen the mantra of my club coach is that rest is 50% of success. It sounds better in French. Le repos est 50% de la réussite. Have a rest, it will probably do you good.

OP posts:
suzannecanthecan · 25/06/2015 21:16

I feel extra drained when it's warm...heart has to work harder to go at the same pace I think
not that it's even all that hot here yetBlush

BobblesAndClips · 25/06/2015 21:47

Thanks for the tips on pacing myself and staying hydrated beforehand familygerms and Anglaise, I'll make extra sure to drink plenty of water over the next couple of days, something I don't always manage.

I've got a garmin that I have set to show my average pace, so hopefully that will keep me in check. It's a flat course, so I should have a chance at a steady pace. Rather than my all over the place pace on a hilly route. It'll be a novelty to do a flat run actually, I'm wondering if it will become more tiring as there will be no nice downhill bits to recover on?

Anyway, just 2.4 from me tonight
