And hello horsey and shove and well done for getting out running. I've only started again a few months ago, and it was hard at first, but am loving it now. You'll soon be going a little bit further and a little bit faster Smile

runtothehills · 25/06/2015 22:14

Welcome horsey and shove!

Suzanne good to hear from you and your great additional milage Grin

Anglaise your 2 races sound lovely, good luck for this weekend, and also to cinnamon and bobbles. Lots of action going on!!

emummy Happy Birthday Cake. Saw the Illuminator, seems quite expensive, £40 for some lights and a cup of tea Hmm. Our club is getting some discounted places though so may consider! Think I'm used to hill races that cost about £5 to enter and you get tea and home bakes included Grin Have decided to enter the Fare Challenge HM though, have been told doing a HM is a good thing to do shortly after a Marathon so going to put it to the test!

Just 2 miles from me tonight did a quick interval run. Although I think my top speed is probably the same as some peoples jog! Blush

Nice to see other new people. I am also overweight bmi of 28 so hoping to get that down a bit. But snacking quite a lot do to breastfeeding lo.

I have till September before 1st 10k so hopefully will get quicker and slimmer. Last 10k I did was in 2013 and 78 mins so would love to get under 70 mins this time.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend and everyone on training. Sorry about no names. Am on phone app and can't scroll back.

AnnPerkins · 26/06/2015 09:18

I have three miles to add from last night. It was a lovely evening for running and I felt strong and got into a good rhythm. I'm doing a 5k fun run on Sunday, not really what you'd call a 'race' but my first event since before I had DS 6 years ago.

1208.46

Good luck with your races Anglaise1, cinnamon, runtothehills and BobblesAndClips. And hello to horsey and shove.

Have a great weekend and happy running everyone.

Whowouldfardelsbear · 26/06/2015 09:54

A 10k tonight (in preparedness for my 10k race next Sunday) so 6.2 miles from me. Nice to get back out on the roads again!

Good luck to all you racers this weekend!

1214.66

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 26/06/2015 14:06

Hiya all. Sorry, I've been AWOL again, my knee has been twingeing again and so I've had to ease off a bit and pull it back. Consequently, I've only got 10.5 miles spread over 3 runs to add, since my last appearance Sad. Knee much better now though after a rest and some recovery walk/runs, hurrah Smile.

1214.66 + 10.5 = 1225.16

emummy · 26/06/2015 14:18

New route today through an estate near the next town, nice route, not too hilly , off road through the woods. Nearly stood on a frog! And heard a cuckoo, that was it for wildlife, think I scared the rest off with my heavy breathing!
1231.66

Anglaise1 · 26/06/2015 18:07

Just a little 3.1 dog run to add today, no running before my race Sunday morning. Good luck to all of you racing and running this weekend,

5 miles from me at my race. Really enjoyed it and so many of my club mates and friends are there which was lovely. My farm in says under 50mins which I'm very pleased with Smile

1239.76

AggressiveBunting · 27/06/2015 09:46

roughly 11 to add to make 1250.76. Hot and sweaty- ended up taking my top off and running in my bra. Pleased with the time though as not too far off my winter time for that route and my hills are getting a lot better.

GrumpyOldBiddy2 · 27/06/2015 10:27

Am very excited to find this thread. I used to cto5k app and had been running 5k about 4-5 times a week up until I had some surgery which laid me low for 4 weeks. Have tried to get back to it but seem to have lost my mojo, I think it might be that I was really chuffed with myself for getting to under 30 mins and then read a thread with someone saying 35 mins was really slow so have convinced myself that I need to speed up. Tried to do this with one of my first return runs and hated it - was not enjoyable at all. And it has now been a week since my last run. Am watching this thread for advice and ideas.

Lilicat1013 · 27/06/2015 10:35

It is really motivating to hear all about everyone's runs, you are all so impressive. You give me something to aspire towards.

Congratulations on your race cinnamongreyhound, that is great.

I did my last Zombie Couch to 5k today, the allotted time is 51 minutes and I managed to jog the whole thing! Incredibly slowly and too slow to make the 5k in the time allowed (I got 4.60km according to the app) but at the start of May I couldn't run two minutes so I am pleased.

I didn't think I would be able to do it, literally up to starting I thought I would fail so I didn't tell anyone it was the 5k attempt today.

I now get to move on to Zombie Missions and work on my speed, I am also trying to do some strength exercises as recommended by lovely people on here to help myself improve.

standingonlego · 27/06/2015 11:23

What a lovely morning, here to add on parkrun taking us to

1253.96

Couch to 5k folk (with or without zombies!) huge congratulations and respect for your determination. Keep going, you are already seeing such fabulous progress ! Come join us at parkrun soon (in RL and on our thread) Smile

standingonlego · 27/06/2015 11:26

grumpy do not be dishearted, under 30 mins is a HUGE milestone and one many of our parkrunners are seeking to hit.

In my view, running is about YOU and your personal progress and well being. And getting off the sofa :)

GrumpyOldBiddy2 · 27/06/2015 12:30

I appreciate you reply (and username)standingonlego. I read earlier in the thread someone saying to prioritise distance over time which is what I did last time and really enjoyed it. Would get up at 5.30 to have time to run and do yoga before work and felt really well.

Have got into the habit of watching box sets till midnight and then being too tired to get up in the morning, think I need to enjoy one run and I will get my mojo back.

Lilicat1013 · 27/06/2015 13:36

Thank you standingonlego!

I have looked in to parkrun, there isn't one where I live currently but they are trying to set one up so hopefully that will be available soon.

Where I live seems to be suddenly trying to develop all sorts of running things, I assume there is a running club behind it. We have a new one mile race (which I have unfortunately missed) and a series of 5k races one of which I will be entering.

re 'running in one's bra'
I am saving that option for a very hot day when I get my act together and get out early enough for there not to be many people about

currently running in shorts and a very lightweight short sleeve t-shirt, I wish I had other t-shirts like it bought it a few years ago and have never found another one quite as lightweight.
Also many of them have necklines which are too low, I like something close fitting at the neck to keep the sun off the upper chest area

suzannecanthecan · 27/06/2015 14:06

Grumpy, I dont know about you but I dont run because I need to get from A-B as quickly as possible (and if I did I'd get the trainWink ) I run because I want all the benefits that running brings.
It doesn't matter how fast you go, if you run you get the benefits of running.
Your speed will tend to naturally drift upwards as you get more proficient at running, because of increased cardio vascular efficiency and better neuro-muscular co ordination/improved running form.

Most of us dont have a snowballs chance in hell of being elite runners, but that's besides the point, we will all improve if we 'just DO it' :o

GrumpyOldBiddy2 · 27/06/2015 14:37

That's true, I am properly inspired by the this girl can campaign - just need to channel that energy!

I thought that 30 minutes must be really slow and that I'd been kidding myself that I was getting better (although in my head I know I was as I'd gone down from nearer 40 and could run 5k without stopping miracle

familygermsareok · 27/06/2015 18:19

Well done on your race cinnamon, that's brilliant Smile

And well done on your full 5k Lilicat, it's a fantastic feeling when you achieve a goal and when you see the improvements you have made Flowers

Grumpy I totally agree with suzanne, running is running, the benefits are there regardless of the time. I run because I enjoy it and that is the most important thing to me. Don't feel you have to go faster and turn it into a chore.
I know what you mean about late nights. I also get up very early to run and I aim to get to bed by 10:30 at latest or I'm much less likely to get up. I do have to shove myself up the stairs when it's much easier to stay watching TV but it's always worth it the next morning.

8 miles today with DS1, which was really lovely. We had aimed for 6, then decided to do 7 but I misjudged the extra loop and ended up at 8 which is the furthest he has ever run. Chatted the whole way, lots of water stops and a couple of extra breaks to admire the view ( and the distance behind us!) and to chat to a farmer too. We both felt very happy and chilled afterwards Smile

familygermsareok · 27/06/2015 18:20

1265.59 + 8 = 1273.59

GrumpyOldBiddy2 · 27/06/2015 19:01

Family germs that sounds lovely, I'm going to get up and run tomorrow. I've said it on here now so if I don't - well I guess nothing will happen Grin but I'm commiting to it!

GrumpyOldBiddy2 · 27/06/2015 19:01

Are the numbers the total run?

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 27/06/2015 19:03

The numbers are the miles we've clocked up during the current month, grumps
