Just place marking and saying hello Smile

I haven't run since Sunday but am running a marathon over the weekend (in three phases - tomorrow night, Saturday lunchtime and Sunday morning) Smile

Delia I find that I don't notice my shoes wearing until I get new ones and feel how bouncy they are Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 19/06/2015 05:00

That's come round quickly OhOneOhTwoOhThree!!

AggressiveBunting · 19/06/2015 05:25

Adding 6 miles of hell to make 751.8. We made it over and back in a balmy 34 degrees Grin with no shade, and not a man lost. Not sure I'll be repeating it though. There was a point where we stopped and both said "we should have started earlier".

Runtothehills Well done on your race. Re the steps, Yes, it's literally stepped to reduce erosion and make it accessable (otherwise it would be a scramble as the trails are old WW2 trails so straight up and straight down)so it looks something like this (pic attached but you cant see it on your phone). There are 3 hills in total. The first one is about 450 steps up, then 1000 down, then 1000 up, then a technical scramble and another 230 up to the last hill and then 1000 down to the road. Then we turned round and came back, so it ends up as a total 1000 m ascent and descent. It's kind of awful but I try to do it once a week over summer as it's great conditioning and keeps your climbing legs in shape.

ohoneohtwo Is this marathon a race or a personal challenge that you set yourself? Either way, best of luck with it.

have great weekend runs everyone!

Cor Aggressive, that sounds quite punishing! And you do it once a week in summer? Shock

Runtothehills, that sounds like a great race. I'm loving the image of you hurtling downhill past all those people Grin

Well done Bobbles. Isn't it brilliant when you accidentally run further than you intended.

I hope everyone's injuries are on the mend.

I did two miles in my new shoes last night and so far am feeling no adverse effects. They did feel nice and bouncy and I could feel the extra energy in my legs. I tried to concentrate on smaller strides and lifting my knees higher to see if that helps me to run more on my midfoot than my heel. It did feel a bit like stalking deer in the Serengeti. Probably.

753.8

Whowouldfardelsbear · 19/06/2015 11:23

Ooh Aggressive I need a lie down just looking at that photos. I am still crap at any kind of running up hill or stairs.

A 4.36 miles from me from last night. The weather has been shit here this week - very rainy and strong southerly (they're the cold ones here - straight of Antarctica) gales. I like running in the wind and rain, but there are limits . . .

So we have decided to hire a treadmill. Getting it delivered next week. I've never really tried treadmill running, but it also means I will be able to do my runs when DH is out. This means the garage needs sorting out again (its full of clutter) but also has the trampoline (it's a big garage) and DH's other unused gym equipment. There's a TV and DVD set up in there and this treadmill has an iphone input apparently so hopefully will be all set!

DH is now doing the 5k run at the Wellington marathon (quite an achievement for him after his transplant) so we are hoping to raise quite a bit for the Heart Foundation.

Hello Frank. I started on C25K at the end of January this year. I struggled that first week and had to really push myself for the first 3 minute runs. I am now able to run 10k so it really does work. I should also warn you that you are likely to use inches and tone up faster than you lose weight due to all the muscle building up in your legs. Well done for getting started!

Whowouldfardelsbear · 19/06/2015 11:24

oh and that's 758.16

familygermsareok · 19/06/2015 16:26

Wow Aggressive, I feel faint looking at all those steps, and in that heat too Shock . Do you find you have acclimatised to the conditions since you've lived there? I remember being exhausted walking and the heat hitting me like a physical blow on going outside when I was in Malaysia, I think it was 36 degrees then so not far off. I kept going into shops just for the air con!

Glad you like your new shoes Ann

Good luck with your marathon OhOne, that sounds like a very civilised way to do it Smile

5.23 rather half hearted intervals from me early this morning. I just couldn't get myself going properly. Remembered I have a hm in just over 3 weeks which I had kind of forgotten was getting so close so I need to do a bit of work! Confused

758.16 + 5.23 = 763.39

Anglaise1 · 19/06/2015 16:52

15.2 miles comprising a short run yesterday and long 18km outing in a nearby valley this afternoon with my friend who is in training for the Mont Blanc. Lots of steep hills, I can't think of any better way to spend a sunny Friday afternoon, it was wonderful, I love the trails, especially the hills, really! Grin

Evening all Smile

Aggressive the three races over a weekend are an annual event organized by a local running club. It's held at the Unilever HQ, which is a big science park in the middle of the nowhere, so it's mostly off-road. This evening was the 5 mile run, which is the most popular. Lots of Unilever people run/walk it. Tomorrow is 8.1 x-country, which is an out and back over a narrow trail, and Sunday the HM which is 2 laps.

The wheels fell off for me in the HM last year, so my cumulative time was over half an hour slower than my "proper" marathon (although I had trained properly and tapered for the real thing, it's quite hard to work out how to prepare for this one). I took a minute off my last year's 5 mile time tonight, am expecting about the same for tomorrow and hoping for a faster time than last year on Sunday.

I couldn't walk up the stairs, let alone run them Grin

AggressiveBunting · 20/06/2015 04:26

That sounds great ohoneohtwo. Best of luck with the rest of it.

RE the steps, I need to clarify that I don't run up long flights of steps- no-one does, not even the top trail runners, although they may "march" them two at a time or at least look a lot more springy than me going up them. A lot of steps are cut too high to run up anyway. My rule of thumb is that if there's fewer than twenty, I'll jog them, otherwise I'll walk.

family I have acclimatised in that I can perform better in the heat but it still feels just as hot, if that makes sense. I definitely sweat more and earlier, and my sweat is less salty, so my body has learned to retain more salts. I don't go as red, and I can also run through minor dehydration a lot more easily than I used to. I'm lucky in that although I'm quite fair skinned, I tan quite easily so I tend not to burn. I am going to be massively wrinkly though.

Didn't run today- just went to Crossfit this morning. DH is out at the moment. Just got a text from him saying the heat's absolutely killing him.

Anglaise1 · 20/06/2015 08:13

Good luck with your cross country part of the marathon today Ohone. It is a huge challenge and possibly more difficult than doing a marathon all in one go. I'd imagine tomorrow your legs are going to feel quite stiff before doing the HM!

Good luck today Ohone

5 miles from me this morning.

783.59

Deliaskis · 20/06/2015 10:52

Those stairs look unrunnable to me! Yikes.

A very slow 3.2 from me last night, had no mo, but at least I went out.

Total 781.79

Deliaskis · 20/06/2015 10:53

Loop cross-posted, total is now 786.79

standingonlego · 20/06/2015 11:06

Catching up...10k race for life, 2 park runs and a timed magic mile to add so about 13.8 taking us over the 800 mile mark

800.6

Carmenandgetit · 20/06/2015 12:03

Can I join, did 5k this week. Did it in 40minutes which I was really pleased with. I have just signed to do the Bright10 in October and need to do lots of training between now and then.
Not sure how many miles I have done so will start now:

3.1

cinnamongreyhound · 20/06/2015 12:08

Good luck OhOneOhTwoOhThree!!!

Hi Carmenandgetit, welcome Smile the total miles in bold is for the thread as a whole so you need to find the previous figure and add yours to it for an accumulate monthly total. Is the bright10 miles or km? I'm doing my first race since November this Friday so I'm quite nervous about it.

4 miles from me with parkrun and getting there and back. My miles plus Carmenandgetit gives us 807.7

PoppyShakespeare · 20/06/2015 12:22

good luck ohone!

and cuddle for cinnamon

HalleLouja · 20/06/2015 12:37

3.1 beautiful parkrun miles. Totally not fast but lovely.

810.8.

Carmenandgetit · 20/06/2015 12:55

Thanks cinnamon Blush

It is 10miles. Did my 5k run on Wednesday and got back on the treadmill yesterday and ached a bit, so just going to swim this week to avoid doing any damage. The hopefully back to running next weekend.

Good luck for Friday

HalleLouja · 20/06/2015 13:26

Ohone is it in Port Sunlight? I love that place. I lived in Chester (for a couple of years) and my ex was from the Wirral.

HalleLouja · 20/06/2015 13:29

Ohone ignore me. I have just googled and found it. Am tempted for next year.

LornMowa · 20/06/2015 13:44

4.7 from me which includes some running to and from the Parkrun.

815.5

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 20/06/2015 15:32

Today went well but boy am I feeling it now. Smile I was 10 minutes faster than last yearGrin but last year was baking hot and today was cool with light drizzle. The organisers changed the course a bit too, so there were more loops instead of the out and back over narrow paths which meant constant leaping out of the way of faster runners coming the other way.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 20/06/2015 16:11

Halle yes you must do it next year!
