Re step count, one of the places I worked in last year was doing a combined 'walk to the Sahara' or somewhere and all the staff taking part were given a basic pedometer, it only measured steps, nothing else, and just clipped to your waistband or belt. It got a wee bit competitive and I found myself walking on the spot while brushing my teeth/washing up etc. which really upped my count. Not sure if that is cheating, but I did do the steps, so I reckoned it's similar to running on a treadmill. And I forgot to wear it during a 10k race!
Anyway, it was tiny, easy to wear and forget about, and I think the basic ones are quite cheap so worth thinking about if you are doing a step count and don't need calories, distance, etc
I have a mainly sedentary job with episodes of walking, I was doing about 110 000 steps a week with the on-the-spot ones
