my garmin fr 220 doesn't count steps but I got a vivofit and just live with looking a bit obsessed with one on each wrist

MyBlackCat · 01/09/2015 19:55

4.6 miles from me this afternoon dodging the showers, was a bit stiff after my hill race but was pleased with my pace

11.5 from club run and intervals (only 12 x 200m so not too bad!)
emummu what intervals do you have planned for Thursday? I always dread them but after am very happy to have done them as they really get your heart rate up. I was pleased to get below 45 secs for my 200m tonight because I thought all the trail racing/running in the summer would have slowed me down on them.
Cinnamon I have a Fitbit one, it measures steps pretty well but is less accurate on distance and calories burned. I rarely do fewer than 20000 steps a day when I'm not teaching all day as I can run/walk. It is surprisingly hard to do the recommended 10000 steps if you have a sedentary job. You have to force yourself to go out and walk or run at lunchtime or before/after work to achieve that goal.
Glad you have recovered OK after your race myblackcat

Just 2.1 miles from me tonight - first run in new shoes and first run since 10 days rest to banish the shin splints. New shoes feel great. 90% of my running is on pavements as that's pretty much the only option near to home, and usually I relish the bits where I can run on the grassy verge...but not tonight, it got my sparkly new shoes dirty!!

30.5

FlukeSkyeRunner · 01/09/2015 21:28

I clearly can't add, that should have been 30.6

lastqueenofscotland · 02/09/2015 00:03

5 miles of intervals tonight rough session after yesterday's 16!!
35.6

Yes- it's amazing how much influence your job has on step count. I do a desk job and without running I only make 10,000 steps if I walk to and from work (usually do except in summer as too sweaty) AND if I have an external meeting which I also walk to- basically I need to be walking for about 1.5hrs. I have the old skool fitbit with just the lights and I do find that wearing it motivates me to do some incremental walking in my day (i.e. walk, not taxi to meetings). My sister teaches reception and gets quite a high step count just from walking round the classroom all day (she says she rarely sits down).

13 to add from this mornings trail recce to make 48.6. Pleased as the first 18k are the start of a race I'm doing in October and I got there in my target race time without feeling too tired (which is important as the race is 43k in total). Not pleased as I kicked a rock and the toenail that I just spent 2 months growing back is now in a critical conditon.

MadFatRunner · 02/09/2015 10:38

closest I get to an actual job is my animal care work, pretty much dog walking plus some horse stuff so that helps keep my step count up - still only averaged just over 12000 steps a day for August though

lastqueenofscotland · 02/09/2015 13:20

Not running today...... May have ordered new trainers

familygermsareok · 02/09/2015 16:39

Re step count, one of the places I worked in last year was doing a combined 'walk to the Sahara' or somewhere and all the staff taking part were given a basic pedometer, it only measured steps, nothing else, and just clipped to your waistband or belt. It got a wee bit competitive and I found myself walking on the spot while brushing my teeth/washing up etc. which really upped my count. Not sure if that is cheating, but I did do the steps, so I reckoned it's similar to running on a treadmill. And I forgot to wear it during a 10k race!
Anyway, it was tiny, easy to wear and forget about, and I think the basic ones are quite cheap so worth thinking about if you are doing a step count and don't need calories, distance, etc
I have a mainly sedentary job with episodes of walking, I was doing about 110 000 steps a week with the on-the-spot ones Grin

6.5 with the dog today.
55.1
I've had my fitbit for 2 years now and it is a motivator but I am starting to hate it because when I don't hit my target steps I stress...which is really stupid as I do way over most days. Technology has a bad as well as good side.

I have used a pedometer, great way of tracking your exercise but if much of the exercise you do doesnt generate any steps (eg swimming, cycling, lifting) then it's difficult to find a universal way of quantifying everythingConfused

12 miles from me 77.1

HalleLouja · 02/09/2015 22:09

3.1 miles to add from tonight. Makes 80.2. Totally smashed my 5k pb. Which seeing as I run parkrun most weeks made me very happy. Its funny what you can do after some sprint / hill training.

emummy · 03/09/2015 10:52

Interval session - did 4 x 6 minutes, with 2 min recovery, nice that the hm plan is now tailing off so interval sessions are lighter!
84.9

Anglaise1 · 03/09/2015 11:00

Well done on smashing your 5K PB Halle!
Are you tapering now emummy?

Hi just marking my spot. No running from me today am planning on one tomorrow if OH gets home early enough.

Everyone's mileage is brilliant. I am stuck at 4-5 per run due to time constraints with 2 little ones at home and doing stuff.

I have a Fitbit as well and love it. It does motivate me to ensure I get steps in on non running days. So at least I don't feel so bad and I try and power walk with the buggy for at least 30 mins everyday. Lots of hills around me too. SmileGrin
