How do I get German citizenship with a German mother?

My Mum is German (she has lived in the UK since the 60s when she married my British Dad).
I'd like to get me and my sons German passports.
Please can someone explain the process to me? I don't know where to start.
Thanks.

You start by looking at the German government website or the German embassy/consulate website based in London (probably) and this glean the info you need.

uk.diplo.de/uk-en/01/embassy

Can't see why you can't Google this info first before posting on Mumsnet though. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks for the link.
I did google, obviously, but found no clear answer about what I should do first. If I had understood what I needed to do I wouldn't have asked the question.

Hi, on the website the PP gave, is this site very specific uk.diplo.de/uk-en/02/citizenship/acquiring-german-citizenship/2463622#content_0 . How to go about it seems to depend on whether your parents were married and when you were born. If you email the embassy, they reply within a reasonable time. All the best!

Sorry, I see you wrote your parents are married. You are automatically German if you were born after 1 January 1975.

Your sons are automatically German if they were born before the 31st of December 1999. ("Children born abroad do not acquire German nationality by birth if their German parent(s) were themselves born abroad after 31 December 1999 and at the time of the child’s birth were ordinarily resident abroad, provided such children acquire another nationality upon birth.")
