Time of receiving new UK passport, surprise!

Hi,
Has anyone else recieved their UK passport quickly?
I was really surprised, my adult daughter applied for a replacement passport just 5 days ago.
Documents were sent on Monday.
Surprise surprise she did receive it today after an email saying it was on it's way.
That's the fastest turnaround I've heard of since the changes with Brexit/covid.
We are all gobsmacked. Some family members are still waiting but it is early days.
Hopefully they will arrive before the now stated time of 10 weeks.

My renewal came within a week and my sons new one came within 4 days of the confirming the identity bit. I was very surprised.

New passports seem to be being processed really quickly.

If I were being cynical, I'd say that doing the new ones quickly helps with the averages, rather than dealing with the backlog Hmm

There seemed to have been some sort of computer meltdown late May/early June, when everyone's status went back a step Confused

Dh's passport (a straightforward renewal) finally arrived this week -13 weeks after he applied Shock

Hi,
This wasn't a new passport, it was a renewal. That's why we're so surprised.
Sadly others we know have also waited over 13 weeks.
Thank you for responding.

That's amazing. Maybe the backlog is less now.
I'm hoping the other 3 we are waiting for comes sooner than later😊

Thank you for replying

Sorry - I didn't mean "new" passports - I meant new passport applications, whether new child passports or adult or child renewals.

I suspect that new passports might still be a bit longer as technically you need to have an interview for a first (new) adult passport.

Kins2 · 05/08/2022 19:05

Ah, thank you very much for the clarification 😊

Curious about the interview...
Is that for new UK citizens?
Or a new rule since Brexit for all first time applicants?

It's been a rule for some time - just checked and it's been since 2008. But with the surge in applications, it would seem that it seems to be variable in its implementation Hmm

...sorry, posted while I was still editing.

It's essentially supposed to be for all over 16s who are applying for a passport for the first time. So it doesn't include child-to-adult renewals.

Watching this thread with interest to hear of others experiences! We have just applied for a new passport for my 2 year old and a renewal for me... our week off is in 5 weeks so wondering if it's possible we might make an abroad holiday!

Kins2 · 05/08/2022 22:54

I really do hope your passports arrive on time for you to make that holiday away😊

Hi all,
I'm not sure if I concluded thos post.
All 4 of our passports came on time and we were able to make our celebrations on time, back in October of this year.
I hope anyone else waiting for passport arrivals are receiving there's on time.
The backlog seems to be diminishing now.
Thank goodness.

Thank you all again for your help and support and getting me through a time that was worrying and a bit stressful.
