I'm actually glad to hear it. Now we know where we stand.

So, can't vote Tory, can't vote Labour. How can Starmer be so blind to the evidence of the damage? Very disappointed in him.

It’s idiotic. We need to be in a customs Union. They should be able to convince Brexit voters of that purely on the astronomical cost of food right now.

midsomermurderess · 05/07/2022 07:01

Of course we’re out, and there’s no going back for at least a generation. What’s the point in pretending otherwise. Even to get to a point when the EU might consider letting us back into the single market is a long way off. We have behaved appallingly, we have broken trust with the EU, with other member states. There is a mountain to climb when it comes to mending all of that and it will happen with little steps.
And there is no electoral dividend in reviving the Brexit divide. Even the Tories are realising that. On both sides, most people are just scunnered with the whole bloody thing.

I was listening to radio 4 yesterday and they had someone in from the Labour party talking about this. They said it was clear Brexit was not going at all well and that pretty much everything that had been predicted by Remain was coming true. The difficulty was that there would need to be another referendum if the UK was to rejoin, and just no-one had the stomach for that. So realistically, the priority has to be "Make Brexit Work". As a died in the wool Remainer, I got his point.

Fordian · 05/07/2022 08:50

I'm also a dyed in the wool Remainer, but I don't get the actual turning towards Brexit, the idiocy of 'Make Brexit Work', given that it has been amply demonstrated that it cannot 'work', it can only be mitigated against, and that is via a customs union, free movement of people, an acceding to EU rules. BRINO, in other words.

Yes, significantly weaker, smaller, poorer and less relevant than we were in the EU, but that's a slapping we both deserve, and probably need to take.

But Brexit can't 'work' except for its wealthy, powerful backers who are either getting richer on the back of it (JRM et al); or seeking opportunity in division in Europe (Russia).

I 'get' that the slogan 'Let's slink back with our tail between our legs' doesn't quite have the same ring to it, but that's what it'll amount to.

Labour can't have my vote because it doesn't know what a woman in, but absolutely not when it, without the evil genius of Cummings behind it, thinks it can '3 word populist sloganeer' its way back into power.

Labour don't believe women exist except in your head. Labour thinks it can make Brexit work.

Byeeee!

Indeed.
