Could watching the shit show of the UK have anything to do with it?

Yes indeed. They are wondering who on earth would want to be in a position like ours. And rightly so.
We are the laughing stock of the world. 'Great Britain my arse. Pathetic.

KenDodd · 28/09/2020 09:20

I heard one campaign line was about not taking the rights to live across the whole continent away from their young people.
Shame we cared nothing about taking those rights and opportunities away from our own young people.

It seems what swayed the vote was the realisation that if they didn't allow FoM, they'd have loads of Swiss citizens being returned as they'd not longer be able to live and work in the EU.

However it certainly gives the EU a fillip.

allmycats · 28/09/2020 10:05

Sensible Swiss people.

AlexaShutUp · 28/09/2020 10:08

Well done Switzerland. I only wish that we had been so sensible.

KenDodd · 28/09/2020 10:09

I'd love to hear what Farage and Co have to say on this.
I follow so Leave groups on Facebook, they are often on about the demise of the EU and that the UK will be the start of a domino effect. Not a word on this so far.

missfliss · 28/09/2020 10:10

I'm still so angry over this - why oh why would anyone see stopping free movement for our kids as a good thing

KenDodd · 28/09/2020 10:11

When the loss of fom starts to bite I think we will have a lot of very angry young people. Rightly so.

OP posts:
AlexaShutUp · 28/09/2020 10:12

I'm still angry, too, missfliss.

Farage is a name that hasn't floated through my feed for a while. I guess it's too much to hope he's gone to ground (I heard rumours he's going to form an anti-lockdown party ?).

There is a distinct lack of bigging up Brexit at the moment.

However, can I urge all posters who spot it, to push back with "That's what you voted for". Every. Single. Time. If nothing else it tends to end a debate.

I can assure you that wasn't anywhere near what the rabid Breixteers would show a brain surgeon if they had a headache.

The general thrust of Brexit was "we can leave this club and keep all the perks".

KenDodd · 28/09/2020 10:20

I think Farage spends his days on the white cliffs defending the nation against migrants in dinghys. Immigration he promised Brexit would stop.

Can't wait for the Leave voter to realise, fewer white immigrants = more brown immigrants.

DGRossetti · 28/09/2020 10:28

When they do, it'll be "the EUs fault"

Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

PerkingFaintly · 28/09/2020 10:53

And it will be taken out on brown people, immigrants or not, so I'm really not looking forward to that.SadAngry

PerkingFaintly · 28/09/2020 10:55

And I agree, OP. Watching the shining success the UK has made of Brexit may have focussed minds in Switzerland.

Poulter · 28/09/2020 10:56

Definitely. That and they've probably got better media and a better educated population.

unmarkedbythat · 28/09/2020 10:58

Friends in Europe keep assuring me I can stop apologising for Brexit as it will be very good for the EU project in the sense that people will look at the shit show in Britain and want to be as unlike that as possible. Which seems likely to be true- who on earth would want to be us right now?!

PerkingFaintly · 28/09/2020 11:01

Farage is so patriotic he's been spending his time in the US campaigning for Donald Trump. Allowed to enter during Covid restrictions because "in the national interest":
www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/nigel-farage-trump-rally-us-travel-dhs-investigation-bennie-thompson-a9580271.html

Well how else would privileged, rich men get together across the world to campaign against the global elite?

oldwhyno · 28/09/2020 11:15

Support for the free movement of EU citizens is generally higher than 62% in the UK.

DGRossetti · 28/09/2020 11:28

@oldwhyno

Support for the free movement of EU citizens is generally higher than 62% in the UK.
Which is meaningless when it's been removed.
oldwhyno · 28/09/2020 11:39

no more meaningless than trying to draw comparisons between Brexit and a vote in non-EU, but very special, Switzerland to specifically remove a freedom of movement that many Swiss enjoy

KenDodd · 28/09/2020 11:47

If I'd voted Leave I'd be fucking furious now. None of the promised benefits made by the Leave campaigns are still on the table. I'd feel my vote had been stolen from me by a bunch of liars and cheats. Instead Leave voters seem to have doubted down and defending to the death the people who sold them the lies. I came to the realisation a while ago that there is nothing, absolutely nothing, that will make them rethink if their vote was the right thing.

However the danger of running into a nasty remainer who is going to say "told you so" is an extremely powerful incentive to keep your trap shut.

This seems to be the default state for Leavers, which is very odd. They 'won', after all...
