My Dad lives in Poland as a duel national for over 10 years. He lived in the UK for most of his life before moving and retained a UK bank account here for business etc.

Several banks have announced that they will be closing accounts of Expats at the end of the year and Dad believes this will apply to him (although i cannot find Poland in the list of countries this applies to)

He would like to change his UK account to my address so he can retain it. My concern is that this could be legally dubious or put us at risk.

Reading online has raised the issue of debt collectors potentially coming here for him. I can't see this would be relevant as he has been gone for so long.

Is there anyone here who could enlighten me as to any potential risks? This is apart from breaching and Banking Ts and Cs too. He Banks with Lloyds if relavent.

Thanks

Suggest he has a look at a multi currency banking service such as https://www.revolut.com

I live overseas and my UK bank account is still registered at my mum's house. It's the account the majority of my salary is paid into so I can't close it. I also have an extremely unreliable post service where I am so don't want my debit and credit cards going missing.

I've had this set-up for almost 10 years and nothing untoward has occurred but I will be moving back next year anyway.

I also still have my UK credit card which is probably not technically allowed 🤷‍♀️

I'm afraid that I would distinguish between an account set up when you were genuinely resident at an address, which you might plausibly surge you forget to change the address (easy to forget the location especially if you do not receive printed statements ) and actually changing your address to one where you do not live.

If you work and live in different area with different currencies, it is helpful to have an account in each currency. If not, you risk costs to exchange and risk the currencies moving against you so you end up with less. Having an account where you can keep different currencies is really helpful

I think hsbc still allows you to have a bank account in the uk if you are living in the eu - but not sure whether this is only for their existing customers.

OP: could your name be added to your dad's bank account*, and then register to have the statements sent to your address. I have this arrangement with my dad (lives in another country). It's really 'my' bank account but it helps me if dad can have access.

*Won't happen by 1 January though, I guess.
