Brexit Arms: Election Night Lock-In

Welcome to the Brexit Arms - it's going to be a stormy old night! We're about to be buffeted from right to left and back again with no real idea what the landscape will finally look like in the morning. All are welcome to weather the storm in the warmth and safety of the Arms - but please remember this a hospitable establishment so let's try and keep it that way.

We're kicking off the evening with our Back to the 70's theme night while we wait for the big main event to unfold. The juke box is loaded with all your 70's favourites. Feel free to dance round your handbags but please, no dancing on the tables…. this could be seen as having too much fun.

As always, we've got a nice big pot of PG Tips on the brew and Camp coffee by the mugfuls in addition to our usual alcoholic beverages.

On a serious note, we know that tonight's events are going to cause some upsets. With this in mind, the mint imperial bowls on the bar have been filled with Diocalms and we urge all our customers to make use of these. There should be enough to go round as long as nobody starts trying to stockpile. We simply cannot risk the need for plumbers to unblock our loos on Friday morning, as they could have been called out on strike by then.

Landladies on duty tonight will be:

20:00-22:00 Greenish (with Babychams, Cherry B's and vol au vents)
2200-midnight Twattage (with Classic Dmitris and cheeseboard)
Midnight-0200 Singing (with stiff brandies to calm the nerves, plus a selection of fresh nuts)
0200-0400 Hate (possibly with Albanian delicacies and a hangover cure)

We'd like to get the glitter ball turning with this absolute classic:

….fingers crossed similar scenes will abound in the Arms by the end of tonight. Enjoy!

P.s. When ordering drinks between 8pm and 10pm please supply your own drinks emojis. Thankyou!

I know you were - don't worry ;). Although the husband is telling me the odds of hung parliament are getting stronger by the minute. I feel sick...

AutumnRose1 · 12/12/2019 18:06

Question (insert Miranda Beyoncé meme here)

Have you all been involved in politics consistently? I’ve pretty much ignored it for three years. Then I stuck my head above the parapet again and it’s even more grim than I thought. I wonder if that’s why I feel so unsettled today.

HateIsNotGood · 12/12/2019 18:42

Just checking in to confirm my 'shift' later (2-4am) - I'm going for a lie down and have set my alarm for 01:30.

Polling station was very busy this evening.

Back later

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 12/12/2019 19:51

I can’t take it. It’s taking forever...

Jason118 · 12/12/2019 20:00

Just popping in 'from the other side' to wish you all good luck (not that you'll need it). Please be gentle with us......

GreenishMe · 12/12/2019 20:03

Oops, didn't realise the time!

Evening everyone....and ty Jason - good luck to you to us all

I need a drink - is it too early?

I am on an early call tomorrow to open doors for the delivery of a mezzanine floor. The driver wanted a 7.00 AM drop, but fortunately the forklift truck operator doesn't start until 8.30, so I can lie in until 6.30. I shan't have to be stylish. But I can't drink too much too late, or stay up all night.

XingMing · 12/12/2019 20:12

Thank you, Jason for stopping in, and likewise, be kind to us if the cards drop in your favour.

GreenishMe · 12/12/2019 20:14

Won't you be having to check your phone for updates during the night though? I don't think I'll be able to sleep properly not knowing.

Popping in from the Other Place to wish you all well for election night. Seeing people posting here about feeling sick and anxious reminds me that regardless of where we marked our crosses today, there is always more that unites us than divides us. Hope we can all make peace with whatever the outcome.

Thistimetomorrow · 12/12/2019 20:17

Evening Greenish. Thank you Epic and Dusty for the warm welcome. Hoping things will stay civil in The Arms tonight from visiting patrons after the results come in. I certainly won’t be gloating should the result be the one I’d hoped for, just hope visitors from the other threads afford us the same courtesy.
What Channel are you all tuning into to watch the results come in?

InfiniteSheldon · 12/12/2019 20:18

Exit polls have been very accurate for the last 25 years so come 10.05 pm we should know

GreenishMe · 12/12/2019 20:19

Thank you Bat.....I think we're all feeling the same.

Please pop back for a drink anytime :)

Evening Thistime, Evening Infinite

...I assumed it would be the BBC but I'll just fall in with what everyone else's doing - the result will be the same what ever side I watch.

Anyone for a drink? I couldn't wait any longer so I've started without you all.

RaiseaGlasstoFreedom · 12/12/2019 20:23

Strolling in... Tapping fingers on the bar, I don't know what I want to drink.

What am I in the mood for?

Maybe a glass of red... And some tapas if there is any.

I bumped into our neighbours and I know my vote cancels out theirs 😂❎.

They are voting for the non Liberal non democrats.

Dh told me that to '' shut the fuck up '' Hmm but he claimed he voted tory... I'm sure I saw the cross however for the non libs!!

He's a remainer . All the Muslim people families on my road have tory ads in their windows. My other neighbor said they were turkeys voting for Xmas, she's corbyn rabid supporter.

Saucery · 12/12/2019 20:26

Just been talking to an older relative about the election. They can’t remember a time when so many people were affected so badly by worry, anger, animosity and stress due to one. And they have lived through the Thatcher years as a voter, in an area where feelings ran extremely high.

I wish everyone could get the result they want. I certainly hope that whatever the result we can come through this distinctly unedifying period with a bit of optimism.

GreenishMe · 12/12/2019 20:28

I've put a 'record' (that sounds so old now) on the juke box...

70's classic that could have been written for us tonight....whoever we support.

OP posts:
Saucery · 12/12/2019 20:29

I’d be banning the ‘turkeys voting for Christmas’ phrase for a start off. I imagine anyone saying it to be smugly folding their arms and nodding, under the impression they are the First. Person. Ever. To. Say. It. Hmm

GreenishMe · 12/12/2019 20:30

I'm becoming increasingly nervous of another hung parliament if I'm honest

OP posts:
Saucery · 12/12/2019 20:33

Yy, that would be unhelpful and inconclusive and we’d just have more of the same old shit we’ve had since 2016.

Absolutely!

Evening all. Are we likely to be quiet until 10-ish? Very nervous here, it's just so difficult to gauge the mood outside your own bubble. I'm in Gauke's constituency, strong blue usually but remain so he may do well as an independent although I went with the new Tory candidate.

GreenishMe · 12/12/2019 20:35

I can't think about a hung party anymore...I'm just going to bring myself down. How depressing would that be....another 3 years of shit showness.

OP posts:
GreenishMe · 12/12/2019 20:37

Evening Megan....I reckon it's not going to fill up until 10-ish.

I'm just going to drink and mum dance until everyone gets here.
