A scary prospect.

I have everything crossed for a long extension or cancelling the whole mess.

That’s because the EHIC only covers you for the same treatment as a citizen or resident of the country would get @Burpsandrustles

France has a complicated system of copays and refunds.

We had those cards and we had bill from French hospital. Around 100 pounds for 10 mins and an ambulance.

Cost will have been for the ambulance, which is only covered by the French health system if prescribed by a doctor, and even then there is a 30% co-pay.

You'll have been charged on exactly the same basis as a French person, because that is how EHIC works.

EHIC never gave you the UK NHS abroad. Bit naive to think it did.

@bellinisurge
You probably know but British citizens can access healthcare in Ireland as part of the common travel area even after Brexit.

Cheers @Inniu . I will be in Ireland on 31 October. I have in the past relied on CTA for healthcare but am not doing this time. My in-laws travelling with us are.
