Brexit

Anyone else worried we'll have to go to war with Iran?

Pretty sure we'll end up with a disastrous 'no deal' Brexit. We won't have the solidarity of the EU ,this will mean we have to suck up to Trump and go to war with Iran. Has this crossed anyone else's mind?

Only remainers want things to stay the same. Why would I ask @MysteryTripAgain about her situation when she supports change?
And I guess I do have issues with wealthy people telling those of us who rely on unskilled, minimum wage jobs that we need to suck up mass immigration, because you enjoy living your idyllic life and feel like the the EU is a nice idea, and we all need to 'sacrifice' for the grand plan. All whilst earning nearly three times the average wage.

Again
What part of "I'm happy to leave in a way that doesn't mess up GFA" didn't you get?

PotatoShape · 25/09/2019 11:35

And I imaging that your idea of leave is basically BINO. You might be invested in your ideas of how to do things, I'm not going to wade into details because honestly, it's just a pointless waste of time. We are not the ones who will decide.
I'm happy for it to be no deal.

bellinisurge · 25/09/2019 11:36

No, I want Brexit that doesn't mess up GFA.

bellinisurge · 25/09/2019 11:52

Given that the Yellowhammer document says that people on the lowest income will be disproportionately affected badly, I am surprised you want No Deal. Or does the ranting about poverty only count pre No Deal Brexit . Do people "get what's coming to them" post No Deal Brexit and your concerns about people on low incomes disappear.

PotatoShape · 25/09/2019 12:22

Life in general affects people who aren't able to throw money at their problems more negatively than those who can. Remaining in the EU would also negatively affect the low wage, unskilled workers, but once we leave, those people get to use their vote to actually make changes for their future. How anyone can tell us that unfettered access to our jobs wouldn't affect our own people baffles me.

Who is the agency going to hire for this years harvest?
Man who is sharing a house with 12 others, no dependants, no need for work-life balance vs a normal dad who has bills and responsibilities?

bellinisurge · 25/09/2019 13:08

Your concern for people on a low income is touching. Hmm

PotatoShape · 25/09/2019 13:11

Better than being condescending.

bellinisurge · 25/09/2019 13:35

I'm condescending how exactly?

Mistigri · 25/09/2019 13:37

"normal dad who has bills and responsibilities" is almost certainly not doing seasonal agricultural work precisely because he has bills to pay and is responsible for kids - so can't just fuck off to the other end of the country for a month because some strawberries need picking.

I really don't think a war with Iran is likely as unlike Iraq there's not even a faint chance of it being relatively quick (for the initial stages).

Iran is a large, mountainous country that has been preparing for a long time. They had a long war with Iraq and their troops are generally considered to be relatively well trained and equipped as well as having over half a million active soldiers. There is also the psychological advantage, these will be soldiers fighting for their homeland rather than invaders who will be widely condemned.

The UK would gain far more from opposing any invasion as it would show a degree of sense that is largely lacking in US politics.

Songsofexperience · 25/09/2019 17:29

No deal is only interesting for people who want less tax, less regulations: people with a LOT of money, not middle class incomes.

Don't be fooled into hating the mc when it's the real elite who does not give a fuck about this country (or any country) and has money stashed offshore that's pulling the strings. The EU is in the way of their plans for a new feudal age and they want it destroyed.
You are being conned.

MockersthefeMANist · 25/09/2019 17:38

Go to war with what?

Our aircraft carrier with no aircraft.
Our hi-tech destroyers that conk out in hot weather.
Our gold-plated submarines with bits falling off them.

berlinbabylon · 25/09/2019 17:59

Why would someone poor want to leave the EU and leave themselves open to a Tory government without any checks on it? One of the main reasons I voted to remain was to maintain the admittedly not very good employment rights we have, and which, come 1 November, the current Tory Cabinet would love to get rid of if they had a working majority.

I don't think being comfortably off equates with being a remainer. After all, Liverpool voted to remain, and it's not a rich city, it has some very deprived wards. And I live in one of the least deprived wards in the country and we only narrowly voted remain.

Msfartypants · 30/09/2019 17:08

It has crossed my mind.
