This article pretty much sums up how I feel about Brexit. I hope that someone can stop this madness yet. This is not a fun time to be expecting a baby not knowing what life she's going to be born into in January :(

Excellent news on infrastructure - I'm happy for the tax increase to pay for it too!

These will take decades to come to fruition as land is bought, planning application, appeals and legal challenges go through before any work actually starts.

Brexit however will hit society instantly.

If spending one's way out of economic problems was so simple, every country since the year dot would do it & should brexit be this impending disaster, no one will lend us the money or not at rates we can afford.

This is assuming that it doesn't have its hands full fire-fighting. Infrastructure building is a long term commitment not a short term solution to a disaster.

Interesting that Leavers pick and chose bits of socialist economic principles and , at the same time, argue we must run away very fast from them. Keynesian principles are socialism- ask any American.

Leavers come from all along the political spectrum.

I know they do. And yet they all want to fix any problems by massive government investment and expenditure. It's pathetic really. Anything to try and keep people on board. Saying it's "British money" rather than EU money sounds more Brexit-yo

I'm also due in January Moomin I had a difficult birth last time so it's a nice extra worry to have in the back of my head...that the hospital might be understaffed/have drug shortages etc.

Totally agree op. The complacency, particularly among the well-off groups, has always been staggering. Not just about Brexit: about the inequality, about crime levels in Britain, about the lives so many of their own people have to live here.

I am also put in mind today of the collective guilt Germany assumes, and how many times people have asked how they could let things go so far and all that happen. Now we know. There is nothing those of us who never wanted this to happen can do to stop it.

I always wondered how an educated and cultured population could sink to barbarism, and as you say now we know. I suspect that the way I feel now, of "I don't like what I see happening, but there seems to be little I can do to stop it" must be how many Germans felt in the late 1920s and early 1930s.

Waiting with bated breath for an eloquent / educated / knowledged argument from the Leave side.

@TrojanWhore believe me I've looked using google and discussions in RL, in fact I stumbled onto MN during that very search. I've continued to look elsewhere, and I cannot find any upsides that are actually upsides rather than a display of personal prejudices. So, please do link away to provide me some more insight. They way things seem right now I could do with cheering up.

Yep, this is what a relative of mine said who works in an area that gives knowledge about such things. NI terrorists never really disappeared, they just became a sort of mafia.
