How long did it take you to get your (pre-)settled status?

A family member (employed, NI no, tax-paying, voter) sent in a postal application in early April, was given an application number but hasn’t heard yet. Should we worry?

The home office is currently claiming between 1 and 4 days for a response (this may be a lie of course).

Thanks Misti. I was wondering if it was normal for the postal applications to take that long (he only has an iPhone) but we’ll try asking one of the helplines.

I have just done on my android phone it for a friend who had only an iPhone. You sign in through the android compatible app and follow the process giving your friend data: the outcome will be immediate - either the application is accepted there and then or he will receive an email that it is missing evidence. From the email he will be able to update and send documentation from his iPhone or PC.
Hope this helps

Thank you panzotti. I do now have an Android I could lend him but I don’t know if you can apply twice. He’s now away on work so he’d better phone the helplines when he gets back. It does seem a lot easier if you use the android phone method.

Did he give an email address etc? DH could log in using details give. To check progress - he applied through the app though. It also took about a month to come through even though it said max of 9 days. Think he did it beginning of April.

callthecattlehome · 22/05/2019 20:41

Thank you for the link Okki. That’s encouraging if your DH’s took a month even with the app. as the postal method is meant to be slower. Yes, he gave an email address.

Mine took 48 hours using the Beta, from starting the photo thing on my Android phone to getting the status notification via email.

We couldn't do DD1's at all in the beginning as the online platform wasn't yet ready in terms of handling applications from under 21s using their already settled parent. When we could finally do it, it took 2 weeks to come back with a yes - that was today. All she had to do in support of her application was put my number in and upload photos of her birth cert and my marriage cert. So now we can do DD2 (16) and get it over with for us.

I really wish he’d waited till he had use of someone’s Android but he’s very short of time. Good luck with DD2, pointythings.

Personally I found the Home Office emails about my settled status in my spam folder, where I didn't think they would be...

callthecattlehome · 30/05/2019 09:59

Thanks Fawful, he was checking his spam folder too. Pre-settled status now finally through, and he can apply for settled status once he’s been here 5 years. That took nearly two months via the postal system.
