Candidates for the Brexit Party - what are they like?

Here are a few of the candidates standing for the Brexit Party in the upcoming European elections.

Henrik Overgaard Nielsen
An NHS Dentist and trade union representative who is a Danish national.

James Wells
A civil servant who was the Head of UK Trade at the ONS, Office of National Statistics.

John Longworth
Former head of British Chambers of Commerce.

Elizabeth Babade
A Nigerian-born lawyer.

Alka Sehgal Cuthbert
An educationalist.

Anne Widdecombe
An old Tory.

Lance Forman
CEO of a London smoked salmon producer.

Lance Forman is Jewish and has family who survived the holocaust. I mention this because he had a swastika painted on his workplace recently – presumably because he is standing for the Brexit Party.
It is common on MN for posters to refer to the Brexit Party as fascists. Anyone who does this should take a good hard look at their prejudices. The truth is that the Brexit Party candidates are diverse: and include experts from all fields including dentists, doctors, teachers, nurses, business people, lawyers and experts on UK trade. What do they have in common? They want the UK to leave the EU.

Dyrne . I agree with what you say and it is a bit weird to list the candidates like I did. I'm just bored with the MN posters who lazily describe Brexit candidates as fascists without even knowing who they are.

My postal vote has already gone.So has mine.

{ I'm just bored with the MN posters who lazily describe Brexit candidates as fascists without even knowing who they are.}

A bit like the leave supporters that have no clue what will happen when the UK leaves. Not helped by the lack of manifestos.
I wonder how much Farage is going to cut Universal credit by, perhaps scrap it altogether as there is not much of a welfare state in the USA.
Of course he has been boning up on how to make the best profits from the American style privatised health service, and I am sure there are far too many workers rights, which hamper company profits so probably cut those too.
Out of the EU we can do all of that and more.
Of course with no manifesto he can just make it up as he goes along, pretty much as he has done for the last umpteen years. Why turn up in Brussels as an MEP when he can just claiom the money and then pension by staying in the pub. Who gave a damn about fishing anyway?

bellinisurge · 15/05/2019 18:35

They are not fascists. They are populist twats who know a publicity stunt when they see one. And know they don't have to do anything grown up about Brexit.

Peregrina · 15/05/2019 19:15

Who funds the lib dems?

The members - some more generously than others!

As for the Faragists - there leader is a fascist and more fool them if they think otherwise. He won't be there to bail any of them out if or when things go tits up for them.

Peregrina · 15/05/2019 19:20

their not there.

lljkk · 15/05/2019 19:59

My Brexit party candidates are quite boring! I feel most disappointed. All Established veterans of anti-EU campaigning.

VoteForChange has much better pages on each candidate than Brexit party has for their people. I can understand much more easily who the VfCh candidates are. Some are veteran campaigners, others qualify as ordinary competents.

What are they like?

Sycamorish · 15/05/2019 20:16

Sudhir Choudrie has donated 1.5 million to the lib dems. Controversial London-based businessman with interests in healthcare, aviation, hospitality, and .... the arms trade.

Which is why I'm holding my nose to vote Lib Dem. I would never vote for Brexit Party so don't waste your time. Or do. Your choice.

OP posts:
Sycamorish · 15/05/2019 20:25

Why would you vote for a party you don't approve of? Genuine question.
The lib dems are quite a nasty party. If I was a remainer I would vote Change UK. They are good people.

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 15/05/2019 20:32

I will vote for the Remain party most likely to get enough votes to score a place.
It's not a general election, it's fake bullshit that we are all going through because Leave MPs didn't have the balls to take us out via WA.

Some facts to add about their candidates

  • The Brexit MEP candidate for the area of Warrington, Claire Fox supported the IRA Warrington bombings in 1993. She has refused to apologise even in the last month to Colin Parry the father of one of the two child victims killed in the bombings, who has called for her to stand down. Nigel Farage has continued to actively support her since this revelation.
She is also against banning child porn on the internet ...
Milkywayfan · 15/05/2019 20:43

Nigel Farage has said on the record “Worrying about global warming is the stupidest thing in human history”

Mistigri · 15/05/2019 20:44

Apparently these are being delivered by locals in Warrington, who are understandably upset that Fox is standing.

Milkywayfan · 15/05/2019 20:46

And on the Jewish thing.. (my ethnic community) Farage is on the record with anti-Semitic comments last year on Jews being too powerful in the US. He also in this campaign used classic anti Semitic trope on George Soros - And has been condemned for doing so by leading Jewish organisations. I am sorry for the Jewish brexit MEP’s very sad family history but that doesn’t make him any less wrong for getting into bed with Farage (and the company Farage keeps in Europe contains a lot of anti-semitism). (On the other side There are also still Jewish supporters of Corbyn who are equally blind to history).

Milkywayfan · 15/05/2019 20:49

mistigri. Good on the locals in Warrington and the whole episode shows the many flaws in Farage man of the people act. I actually think it is hard for many decent brexiteers since both UKIP and Brexit party are absolutely extreme right parties (think of us as in 1933). I am remain but if I were brexit I would reluctantly stick with the tories.

Mistigri · 15/05/2019 20:49

London constituency lead candidate Ben Habib's main interest in Brexit appears to be making quick buck:

1tisILeClerc · 15/05/2019 21:06

Mistigri
I have been saying this for a while. Farage and some of the ERG are not bothered whether any one decision gets taken as they are profiting from the volatility and not by any specific outcome.
The more outlandish and concerning the 'announcements' are by T May and others, the better for them. If it could be engineered for significant market changes to happen by Farage having a 'change of heart' and deciding that revoke is 'best' (apart from the fact he might then be able to keep more of his EU pension) then he would declare 'remain'. Maybe sell a few of his grandmothers into the bargain.

Mistigri · 15/05/2019 21:16

Actually Leclerc Otto English on twitter has a theory that Farage and Tice have been victims of some highly organised entryism by left wing libertarians Grin

1tisILeClerc · 15/05/2019 21:52

{Farage and Tice have been victims of some highly organised entryism by left wing libertarians}

As long as it is painful that will do me.

AlceaRosea · 15/05/2019 21:57

There was a Panorama programme about that Lib Dem donor Choudrie. Here's a BBC story about him.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-37823559
The billionaire arms dealer welcomed by the British establishment

"The Choudrie family has given more than £1.6m to the Liberal Democrats. An investigation by BBC Panorama and The Guardian suggests he is also one of the world's biggest arms dealers. Leaked documents from the Choudhries' Swiss bank show that the family's companies were paid almost 100m euros by Russian arms firms in one 12-month period alone. The leaked documents say one of the Russian arms firms paying the Choudhries "makes cruise missiles"."

People who vote Lib Dem do not occupy the moral highground!! The fuss you make about perfectly innocent people like Ben Habib or Tice. Give your heads a wobble!

bellinisurge · 15/05/2019 22:04

I never said I occupy the moral high ground ffs. I just want to avoid No Deal. And I'll vote anyway I think will stop it.
Enough playing the victim, Leavers. You won, get over it. You had a chance to get us out and your MPs blew it because they didn't back WA. This shit continues to be your fault.
