Has anyone applied for an Irish passport this year?

I'm asking about actual turnaround times please.
My application was received on 5th Feb so 63 days ago. The fee has been taken from my account. On the website it says current turnaround time is a minimum of 55 days but that has recently gone up from 50 days.
I can't get onto the live chat as they are so busy.

I appreciate just how many people are applying and I just have to wait (although I really need my UK passport back by the beginning of May).

But if anyone has applied this year, how long did it actually take to get your original passport back? I just need a rough idea of how long it actually is taking at the moment.

Thanks for any info.

@SwedishEdith - NI = Irish so same rules apply.

Well, I am VERY impressed with the Irish consulate in Edinburgh!

I emailed them (thinking they’d be a bit less busy than London) with a very brief question - didn’t expect to hear back this week - in fact someone replied almost straight away to ask for a phone number, & then rang me on it as soon as I’d sent it back.

In summary, if we get:

new copies of the certs we don’t currently have
plus all the other standard stuff we do have
plus most importantly a doctor’s letter confirming the pregnancy & due date

& DD2 takes all that up to Edinburgh (she loves Edinburgh so that’s not a problem) & hands it in to the person I spoke to, the consulate will be able to send it electronically to the FBR in Ireland, & then it can be expedited before (🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻) the birth.

So wish us luck, please Smile

HesterLee she also said that DH’s passport “issue date” is only a standard estimate & not to expect anything back any time soon! (Luckily there’s no urgency for his)

Hope you do get yours back ASAP! 11-12 weeks from early Feb should be about the end of April? So 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 for you too Smile

& thank you very much for starting this thread or I’d have had no idea about the backlog of FBR applications Flowers

Ahhhh glad it has been of use to you GiantKitten That's great news from Scotland and I really hope things are sorted for you quickly.
I've learnt stuff from this thread too, so thanks to everyone for your help Flowers

My application was received 7 November and received it 15 Jan. I am NI born and was my first application. Live in London. They didn’t bother using my SAE and spilled coffee on my marriage certificate!

HesterLee · 14/04/2019 11:25

@Iggity that's bad about the coffee and no SAE but thanks for the info re timings.

My DH is Northern Irish and got Irish passports for the 3 DC years before Brexit.
I am so grateful to him for that.
I might try to apply for one but don’t hold up much hope.
It will be weird if we go on holiday as they will all be in the EU queue and I will be standing like a lemon in the non EU queue Sad

Wakemeuuuup · 03/05/2019 11:47

Our passports arrived today. Had an expected dispatch date of June 3rd

bellinisurge · 03/05/2019 13:03

GrinCongratulations!

Wakemeuuuup · 03/05/2019 14:27

Why thank you. Up until now I knew which passport was mine (only Irish one) , now we have 4 so I'm not unique any more Smile

Itscoldouthere · 13/05/2019 13:12

I applied just after Christmas got mine about 3 weeks ago 👍

noodlenosefraggle · 15/05/2019 22:42

My DH's grandfather was born in NI so he has registered on the foreign births register. Our DS's aren't entitled as they were born before DH applied. The same rules apply to me as I'm entitled to a Portuguese passport through my grandparents but my children aren't.

HesterLee · 18/05/2019 11:47

Mine arrived on 10th May, so took 3 months. Although I sent a recorded delivery return envelope they didn't use it. Although they did return it to me in their envelope Grin
