Brexit

Just imagine if TM had actually done the sensible thing and had indicative votes before invoking A50

Then she would have seen just how little consensus there was and maybe approached it better.

Then again, she is such a lunatic she probably wouldn’t have changed a thing.

She was already imagining the adulation and glory she would receive by delivering brexit is brexit on 29 March, under the delusion it was actually possible and the even bigger delusion that she was capable of delivering it, to even consider that it might be a good idea to consult parliament on it especially considering half of the votes were for remain.

I know!!! I've been following this quite closely the last few weeks (head firmly in the sand until then) and I just keep thinking "surely all this customs stuff should have been decided before we started negotiations??"
What the fuck have they been "negotiating" about if we, as a country, don't know what we want 3 days after the deadline Hmm

ThunderStorms · 02/04/2019 12:53

This must be what a 'red, white and blue BREXIT' looks like Hmm

Totally agree, op.

Howzaboutye · 02/04/2019 13:04

That is a very good question. It should the headlines on all the newspapers.
This is such a big mess. It's unreal. Except it's not, it is real.
Maybe the Queen can sort it out?

Ribbonsonabox · 02/04/2019 13:07

Just imagine if Davey c and co had not just assumed remain would win and so actually had done some research and had a plan in place for what Brexit was going to look like....
Or even better imagine if they had thought to themselves 'let's not gamble with the living standards of the most vulnerable in our society by holding a referendum on something that may be terrible for them, just in order to appease far right members of our party and perhaps score some of that UKIP vote in the next election'

Calamity

The indicative votes sort of vindicate TM... It’s not as though there was another route she could have gone down where she had a good chance of getting a deal. Yes, she could have tried the Customs Union route, but that didn’t have the support over 80% of Tory MPs, so clearly completely impossible for any Tory PM.

There is simply no viable way forward... One way or another her precarious Government will fall this week I believe. If she tries to push a ‘no-deal’, enough remainer Tories will join the opposition in a vote of no confidence. The EU won’t grant a long extension unless TM offers something radical like a people’s vote. That would lead to the ultra- Brexiteers voting to bring her Government down.

Her Government is fucked.... And in truth it was the day Article 50 was triggered. Ultimately there’s nothing she could have done differently that would have led to a different result.

I totally disagree. They prove how arrogant and deluded she has been to think her way was ‘the will of the people’ without even trying to build any kind of consensus.

She’s just reaping what she’s sown now - and looking an epic twat in the process.

She should have produced a Green Paper to explore the options and for people to respond to, before invoking A50 Confused

But since when has reason and common sense been more present than dogma and ideology, especially in the HoP? HmmSad

But there again, if "common" sense were so common, why is there so little of it about? Hmm
