Anyone in / know someone in the freemason? Question about masons and Brexit

Idle wondering on a Monday night. FIL is a stereotypical gammon brexiter, not desperately intelligent, reads the mail and thinks Asians and Poles have taken all British jobs and voted leave to chuck them all out and also to bloody Cameron's nose as he didn't like him

He is very heavily involved in the masons and I've often wondered how much this viewpoint comes from them. I assume FIL pretty much follows his boys' club line wrt brexit and politics, so anyone else who knows a Mason and knows their political / brexit views are they similar to my FIL?

Not for one second saying all brexiters have this view / reasoning. Just my FIL. Who is actually a nice human in many ways, but on politics we disagree somewhat...

Yep my good friends husband is exactly the same. My dh refuses to go out in a four now with them because of the way he talks about women too. My friend is lovely but he is a dinosaur really.

No Masons are not all like that. Ignorant twattish men are like that.

Drizzlehair · 25/03/2019 19:33

Can't disagree with that jonty!

I just can't see FIL disagreeing with the views of all these men he respects and plays dress up with every weekend

I always assumed masons were a group that talked about politics. Maybe I'm wrong?

I also assume they're closely tied to royalty so thinking a large and influential group which is close with the queen could have view like this worries me that the Queen does too

I think I spend too much time thinking about this and making wild assumptions which then worry and scare me!

The Mason I know is totally the opposite.

I'm inclined to think it's his Masonic group, not the Masons as a whole!

That's really reassuring to read fluffy

I know one Mason, he's one because his dad was. His mum is a Labour councillor and the whole family are pro-EU.

I thought that the Queen Mother had absolutely had enough with George VI being a Mason, so made sure that the Duke of Edinburgh didn't join. Hence the chief Mason being the Duke of Kent, so not in the leading rank of Royals.

I did have a great Uncle who was a Mason - the family thought well of him until he fiddled a will in his favour, leading to a big family rift.
