And if so what? I've not even thought about this!

When my DC were little at the start of the winter I stashed some tinned spaghetti, tomato soup and cereal. I froze some bread and had ingredients in to make bread (for toast, usually), and also had long life milk and margarine / butter, peanut butter and cheese.

If I was ill, it was easy to cobble something together.

I need to try new recipes too. Ds is a fussy bugger due to autism. DD is allergic. Finding stuff they will eat is tough enough. They do eat pasta with stir in sauce though. We may have an awful lot of that in our future. Need to get a small portable stove next as I am better with fire than gas. Too scared. Could do with getting unscared mind. Just too much to tackle all-in one go.

If you are getting a portable stove I would seriously look at a location outside to use it.
I would avoid cooking indoors on an uncontrolled open flame and the fumes from a camping stove could actually kill.
