"At this festive season of the year, Mr Scrooge Rees-Mogg, ... it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the poor and destitute, who suffer greatly at the present time. Many thousands are in want of common necessaries; hundreds of thousands are in want of common comforts, sir."

"Are there no prisons hostels?"

"Plenty of prisons hostels..."

"And the Union workhouses foodbanks." demanded Scrooge Jacob. "Are they still in operation?"

"Both very busy, sir..."

"Those who are badly off must go there."

"Many can't go there; and many would rather die."

"If they would rather die," said Scrooge ^Rees-Mogg, "they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population."

He continued "Besides I do not believe that anyone would die without them. I think Theresa is right, there are many complex reasons why nurses go to food banks. The real reason for the rise in numbers is that people know that they are there and Labour deliberately didn't tell them. To have charitable support given by people voluntarily to support their fellow citizens I think is rather uplifting and shows what a good, compassionate country we are"

This thread is dedicated to Mrs8 and anyone else who is working to make life just a little better in the difficult circumstances that ALL politicians are currently doing their best to ignore (despite what they profess).

No Deal = even more poverty and destitution.

borntobequiet I sang my husband you Carol he said he preferred it to listening to a Corbyn speech. Grin Disclaimer: I am tone deaf!

Sostenueto · 23/12/2018 23:26

If you genuinely want the Tories out then vote labour no matter who the leader is. Leaders can be changed. ( eventually).
If your really bothered about poverty and austerity then vote labour no matter who the leader is. Leaders can be changed ( eventually).
Otherwise just vote for other small parties thus prolonging the Tory rule just because you don't like JC. Simple is ....

BigChocFrenzy · 23/12/2018 23:40

I refuse to vote Labour
because I refuse to accept Corbyn and his policies - and baggage

Brexit of course
also antisemitism and TRA agenda
also his total incompetence and ineffectiveness against the most chaotic govt since well before universal suffrage

If he gets defeated, so do those policies, so they won't be continued by the next leader and the next ....

Great JK Rowling thread on Corbyn:

_

J.K. Rowling@jkrowling_

And lo, unto her did appear a host of Corbyn defenders, who did descend upon her mentions, and she was not sore afraid, because she was used to it.
And the host did sing with one voice, ‘ungodly woman, thou foolest us not.

We know the true reason thou despisest Saint Jeremy.’ 1
....

Away in the manger
No crib for a bed
The homeless are waiting
In the hopes of being fed.
The food banks are empty
Because austerity continues
Cos the Tories are still here
And it will never end.

Sostenueto · 24/12/2018 00:02

Second and last verse to the tune of away in a manger.
When enough people are starving
Then change can occur
So bring on that brexit
In the hope of a cure.
For social division
To be ended at last
And a prosperous future
For one and for all.

sos Bringing on Brexit harms the economy, so makes all those problems worse

No Deal Brexit cold makes things much worse and let the hard right remove the existing rights for workers

Happy birthday @2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney !

Sostenueto · 24/12/2018 06:18

Well, well, the biggest care provider fines their workers £50 if they ring in sick without 24 hour notice thus forcing sick workers to work and then making elderly vulnerable service users I'll. Who would believe it? I do and it was on main news on the radio this morning. Nothing surprises me with privatised industries. So if you work for this company make sure that when you take I'll you give 24 hour notice, that includes if you might drop dead.

My last post till after Xmas. Merry Xmas and happy new year to all.Flowers
I hope the member of staff in Morrison's can enjoy her Xmas as she was in tears yesterday after being repeatedly abused and shouted at by customers. It was awful yesterday, aisles full of people queuing for the tills, refusing to move for other shoppers to try and do their shopping. I got swore at twice myself cos my sticks were getting in their way. Its one day folks, not a famine. Remember, peace on earth and goodwill to all. Flowers

That reminds me of stories my DM used to tell about the War and food shopping - no supermarkets of course, but the same sorts of scenes played out at grocers and butchers especially.

Let's hope that this queuing when buying food, is not a taste of what is to come in April. Although I expect the Brexiters to come along and tell us that this is a price worth paying. Grin.

If I am too busy to waste spend time on MN folks, Happy Christmas. The New Year will definitely be count down time.
