"A commemorative 50p coin to mark the UK's departure from the EU" - what to put on it?

The above was announced in the budget today:

Any suggestions for a design?

I thought, perhaps an update of the 1973 design commemorating the EEC, with the Queen's hand now separate and waving goodbye.

A comprehensive list of the benefits of Brexit to the UK (only one side needed for this, obvs).

The real Brexit Bonus ...

I presume it is made of rubber so it will bounce.

bellinisurge · 29/10/2018 21:38

A squirrel. As in "oo look! Squirrel!"

Love it buteo but it's somewhat optimistic, isn't it?

HandInGove · 30/10/2018 07:44

It’s not going to be worth 50p any more after Brexit, so maybe just be honest and make the design look like a 5p coin? Sad

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 30/10/2018 07:53

A proud Union Jack with the different colours picked out in different metals.

derikthesheep · 30/10/2018 07:55

"so long, and thanks for all the fish"

abbsisspartacus · 30/10/2018 07:58

I think they took our fish didn't they? (Unsure of the fish argument)

derikthesheep · 30/10/2018 08:03

It's Douglas Adams book title, from the series the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. Maybe a bit obscure!

KennDodd · 30/10/2018 08:03

UK with a crack down the middle?
Swastika?
Those hands holding in the one to commemorate joining could all be fists?

Who's idea was this coin?

abbsisspartacus · 30/10/2018 08:06

Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, yes I've read it I tend to get overly literal

lonelyplanetmum · 30/10/2018 08:08

Errrrr regarding a 'proud' Union Jack. Surely the cost of minting coins with different coloured metals would be prohibitive ?

Also the make up of the current flag is looking very shaky. Scotland was 62% in favour of retaining the benefits of EU membership. It's highly likely that following a further Scotref the flag and coins would have to be redesigned removing the ' blue' representation.

“Abandon all hope ye who enter here”

borntobequiet · 30/10/2018 08:19

Melius est non multum quam malum est multum
in a fancy font. NB though I did Latin many years ago at school I'm lazy so used Google Translate. No idea if it's a decent translation of the May Mantra.

borntobequiet · 30/10/2018 08:21

Possibly wrong meaning of "deal". This might be better:
Nulla re melius quam malae rei.

KennDodd · 30/10/2018 08:36

I think this coin is not as bad idea as the blue passports. The passports will be a visual representation of the rights that our young people have had taken from them. I will really hate them.

bellinisurge · 30/10/2018 09:01

@derikthesheep - fantastic use of Hitchhiker's quote.

Elasticity · 30/10/2018 11:51

A map of the UK with huge cracks running through it resembling the start of the fundamental break up of the UK as we know it.

CarryOnScreamingValenta · 30/10/2018 11:53

We could rename it the 'ten shilling' coin to symbolise the backward step.
