Not strictly speaking brexit related but an example of what the true enemy looks like. Surely all European countries who value their freedom and democratic heritage should band together and stop this:

The original purveyors of fake news and hate.

But there is a very real danger, look what is happening to UKIP, in Austria, the Nazis are actually in power, in France they came second. These are dark times.

Yes, and they were just small scale experiments. Now he's getting serious.

How do we fight against this?

In France, the danger came from fragmented right wing and left wing parties. A bit like here but with a different electoral system. The Socialist Party (roughly equivalent to Labour) was in disarray and a hard left populist party emerged (Les Insoumis) and gained a lot of ground. On the right, Les Republicains (rough equivalent of the Conservatives) were badly threatened by the Front National (hard right, with toxic fascist roots as the founder was a Nazi sympathiser, and now also backed by Bannon). Macron managed to rally the Centre Right and Centre Left, leaving the extremes weakened. He won (but it was a gamble).
What's missing here for instance is a strong centre.
Social democrats, moderate liberals should try to reclaim the 'people'. It has often been said that Macron too is a populist. It's not entirely wrong in the sense that he made a strong case for what French values and identity are and should remain. He didn't just ignore the identitarian discourse. Basically, play the populists at their own game and reclaim democracy...

Article from last year about Bannon and the Mercer family which is funding him. The Mercers' projects include Cambridge Analytica, Breitbart, and Milo Yiannopoulos.

The Mercers and Stephen Bannon: How a populist power base was funded and built
www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/mercer-bannon/

But the festivities that balmy evening aboard the Sea Owl, the Mercers’ luxurious yacht, marked the growing influence of their financial and political partnership in shaping the 2016 campaign — and in encouraging the populist surge now reverberating around the world.

The Mercers’ approach is far different from that of other big donors. While better-known players such as the Koch brothers on the right and George Soros on the left focus on mobilizing activists and voters, the Mercers have exerted pressure on the political system by helping erect an alternative media ecosystem, whose storylines dominated the 2016 race.

Yes they're both master manipulators and digital media experts which is a very dangerous combination.
